Anyone else have this issue? I bought a Vaio VGN-AR150G laptop, *brand new*, and as I was installing Avast! Antivirus, I decided to run its first virus scan. Mind you, I had not logged onto the internet at all -- it was plugged into the wall only. Also, I had never used Netscape. The computer had been booted up for the first time a mere 3 hours before this.

Upon running a boot-time scan, Avast! Antivirus found "Agent-EBU [Trj]" hiding in Netscape! I deleted the file, and then completely deleted Netscape from my hard drive. Also cleared and deleted all my restore files, as it was hiding there too.

Anyone else hear of this trojan hiding in Netscape when the laptop is coming straight from the factory?

    Thanks!

I wasn't aware that Nescape was part of Sony's bloatware. I don't remember it on my SZ. It's a bit strange this would be on a computer straight from the factory, it could be a false positive.

Thanks for the reply. I went online, and looked at specs for software. Neither IE or Netscape was listed in the "software bundle"...but they're both such standard stuff, it probably wasn't listed because of that. Or, this is just very odd.

Anyone else get Netscape with your Vaio laptop?

    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, SonyWhore. If it was a display, open box or refurb, why would it have me go thru the whole 'setting up windows' wizard? I needed to name it, etc. like I would when I first install XP on any other computer.

It was sealed, and came in a Sony Factory box.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Where did you buy this laptop from? Even if used/refurbished, they can always wipe the system clean and make you go through the whole setting up Windows procedure all over again, as I had to do when I bought a used Vaio TX790P a while back.

Thanks for the reply, rahulnirmal. I bought it from a Sony certified reseller. Don't know how a resetting of the OS will still leave a program like Netscape on it with a virus in it...as wiping the hard drive would imply resetting it to factory settings, correct?

    Thanks!

Furry, I don't have wireless turned on. But that was a good idea. Thanks for the reply.

    Hey all,

Don't know if there is anyone out there who can tell me if they've bought Vaio computers with Netscape in them, pre-installed...but I wanted to ask.

Please let me know if Netscape is pre-installed in Vaio laptops...mine is a VGN-AR150G.

    Thanks!

    Hey everyone!

Looks like it was possibly a bug in Avast! antivirus. I had the laptop thoroughly inspected by a professional, and it was definitely brand new.

    Thanks for the help!
