Any indication if this is a permanent or temporary drop?

If you have an old tradeupable laptop, the Z12 would be the better deal. It qualifies, the Z13 does not.

Looks like it's a clearance on the Z12. It says something like "Save $170 while supplies last."

For the Z13, it says save on upgrades until Dec 18th.

It's a big drop, a couple of hundred dollars.

It's significant because the online sites that were already at this price point don't sell the FHD screen, or allow CTO upgrades like processors WWAN cards, etc. They just sell a couple of preconfigured low end versions.

The Z12 version isn't really worth it though, since you are forced to by Win7 Pro, which pushes the price up near the Z13 anyway.

This is obviously a price drop in anticipation of the upcoming Sandy Bridge announcements.

If you check Sony Outlets Twitter ( here) you'll discover this $200 savings is just a temporary 2 day price drop.

I've been following them on twitter for awhile waiting for a discount to order the Z13 and this is the first time I've seen them discounted from Sony Style. Ordered one yesterday.

It seems like all the default parts are out of stock on the sony website. How long will the price be this low for the Z12 and Z13? I really wanted to get it from the sony website because of the student discount..

How does one get a student discount? Do you call to order and mention student discount? Or is there online code?

I went to my local Sony Style Store to ask about how the student discount works. When you buy it in store, you show them a student ID, and they photocopy it then they apply the discount. I am not sure how it works online or if it is even possible. Student discount for a Z is 5%.

The best time is when a "new" Z comes out and Microsoft closes out the "old" model. You will get at least 40% off. That's already happened 3 times this year including the 40% off the Z13 when it first came out. As long as Microsoft stays in business, paying more than 60% of MSRP is not a good deal if you can wait. If you can't, then this is a good deal. I just took a stroll down to the Saturn on the Zeil. They are selling the Z13 for 1999 Euros. That's crazy.

20% off refurbs though, if you don't mind that. Code OUTLETVAIO20 through 12/8.

Can save some nice cabbage. Since the 2-year warranty is only $124, that should give enough presence of mind.

I got a Z11 with i7-620m, 8GB RAM, 512GB quad raid, CD/DVD, and Verizon WWAN, with 2-year extended warranty, for $1,841 after tax.

Wow. Thats an awesome Z11 build.

I don't think I understand how to shop well on Sony Outlet; every machine I come across costs more than it would on sony.com.

I just bought my refurb last week. I just called to see if i can get my $ back, and if they don't i'm going to return my laptop because they have no restocking fee i just have to pay shipping. then i'm going to buy the same laptop back for 400 less than what i paid. its worth the trouble.

the prices are all over the place on the outlet store. some exact equipped machines have different prices. they offered me 10% off and i might just take it because i cannot find an equally equipped machine for the price i paid. oh well it is better than 0%

Do you know approximately when this is going to happen? I know I've seen the microsoft store post 40% off coupons online and I've always been tempted to buy a Sony Z, but I just never got around to doing it.

However, my HP laptop finally died and I'm looking for a new notebook by start of Jan. I might be able to push that out until Feb, but I'd really love to get my hands on one soon.

Hi guys, I just placed an order for VPCZ124GX/B with Sony.

They have a coupon "VAIOSAVE500Z" on this particular model saves $500. (by the way, this is brand new model, not refurbished one)

I was able to get free 2 day shipping as well while chatting with Sales person.
My total came out to be $ 1,837.49. (After $500 off, the price is $1749.99 before tax, just in case people wonder how my total is so.)

The promotion is valid until 12/11/2010. So if anyone out there is looking for a deal on Vaio Z, this isn't such a bad deal. (This model comes with SSD 256GB, which is sweet! :D)

I am a graduate student but unfortunately, Sony will not combine the promotion with student discount. At least, I got a free 2 day expedited shipping (which is $89 if you are paying!)

Anyways, So if anyone of you are ordering, make sure you chat online with sales person to get free 2 day shipping! :)

    I am so excited!! :)
