    Thanks Maven!

    I just purchased a VPCZ2190X 2.7 8GB 512 SSD 1080p Standard PMD for $2707 + tax!

Only other thing I would have wanted is it in Silver or Glossy (Not avalible) and mobile broadband. Although, my Z1 had it and I found myself teathering anyways.

I kept the Blu-Ray PMD from my fist try with the Z2, and now am glad I did. Ended up eating $150 at the time but now seems worth it.

    You da man! :D

    Gotta love Narcissism!

There are some Z1's in there with 256 SSD's that would be about $1000 after discount. (Silver & Bordeaux ) True you can get them on eBay, but if you buy it from Sony, you can get an extended service plan.

If this help you, I would appreciate the rep's!

I do not think so, even if t has I could not find any. Neither on Sony nor on Ebay I could not find any Z series with 256 GB SSD. Yes, there are some but for about 1500 USD.

If you see any could you please put a link here.

    Thank you.

Generally speaking, they are cancelled CTO orders. If they aren't, call and complain and they will give you another 5% to keep it. Again.. generally speaking.

I will not go as far to say you are going to get the original packaging. If it is OG packaging, the battery slice comes in its own box. Although, clearance laptops have a greater chance of this compared to refurbished.

The biggest difference in the outlet is warranty. Clearance 1yr, Refurbished 90 days.

Some of Sony's outlet prices are just whack. Anybody want an SA with 256GB (128GBx2) SSD now on sale for only $4,654.98?

So true. When the SA's are the most expensive laptops in the Outlet, there's something wrong with that picture.

I did see those silver and bordeaux Z1s but the latter is underpowered and comes with an extended battery, while the silver only comes with a 192GB SSD, and it's more expensive than the bordeaux. I would have wanted a Z1 with i7 and HD. I don't like the Z2.

Well, the Z1s are gone, should have passed an order for the bordeaux one yesterday. People really love these machines and the Z2 is certainly not the right successor.
I feel that my current Z1 which serves me pretty well starts heating up too often and it might be getting tired. Thus the idea to buy a 2nd one with a bigger SSD at that ridiculous price. But then I told myself to wait for the Z3.

I think the Z2 fits, but they need to sort the Pgraphics drivers out sooner than later. Optical drives are on the way out with digital downloads and the battery life people desire.

    Just a heads up!

Boy, did they ever just add a ton of new items. Less than an hour ago there were nothing but F1390x's. Definitely worth watching regularly. $2k is not so bad for a Sony refurb with all those features and that config considering they let you return it for a full refund after a month, give it a full 90 days of warranty and allow you to buy an extended Sony warranty. You will generally pay 10- 15% more, with the sale, from the Sony outlet than you would from, say, eBay, and that means this computer would sell for under $1,800 in all likelihood on eBay. The difference is well worth it in my estimation, if that's what your looking for.

I do think it is worth considering making a trade up to a higher spec model. These seem to still be in high demand, so you could probably get around $1,200 for yours, assuming it's a base 128GB model, and pay about $600 on eBay or $800 from Sony Outlet to go up to 256GB or more, perhaps a better cpu, a wwan and/or GPS if yours is lacking it. I think that could buy you another year of very good service and you would still retain pretty good resale value if you kept it in tip top condition.

As for overheating, that shouldn't happen with this little age. You should check to see if there is an accumulation of dust near the vent on the side. Othewise, check your fan speed settings.

    Good luck.

I bought the 1390x. Today, the price dropped to $1500s, with the coupon, it drops to around 1200 + Tax.

I really like the old z1 and thus pulled the trigger. Not a hot deal. But i7, 8GB, 256GB, WWAN works for me with $1200. :)

I second the motion - you did great! You got a mid-high spec Z13 which should look and perform pretty much as brand new for $1,200? And from Sony, with its excellent track record with refurbs , the 30 day refund, 90 day wtty and optional extd wttys, including ADH....I would say your $1,200 deal was almost as much a steal as Maven's $2,700 Z2 w/512GB - well, not quite as good, but darn close. Fair value for that purchase - given that it was from the Sony Outlet - is more like $1,700 - $1,800. Not bad for a day's work, I'd say :D What color did you get?

Were there any others at comparable deals when you got yours?

I third the motion. $1200 for a i7 model is a great deal.

Over here in the UK, used i7 models on ebay can go from $1700-2200 in recent times.

Definitely happy with my i5 z13, love it tbh but still keeping an eye out for a i7 version

Just my opinion - others will know better - but I don't think the Intel Core i7 dual core Gen 1 is sufficiently more powerful to make it a reason to upgrade. If you are happy with your i5 Z13 and its configuration otherwise, it probably doesn't make a lot of sense to sell yours and pay more for one with an i7 which just may not be as well cared-for as your machine is. When you look at benchmarks, the greatest difference between a core i7-640 and a Core i5-540 is about 10%, but there are essentially no applications that will come near running 10% faster.

Again, I believe what I say is correct, but would love to hear what some of the "brain trust" says. Beyond that, I'll just say that as the stock of Z1s age, the chances that one you would buy is closer to a failure of some major component, especially when you can't know how it has been used or maintained.

    Make sense?

The i7 is no worth the coin. If you can do a straight swap price wise buying it directly from Sony (Warranty), it might be worth it. Like lovelaptops said, you never know who has been using that used Z on ebay and how it was taken care of.

Aside from that, I have loaded my Z2 with games and will be posting followup videos tonight. I have found a few interesting thing out this time around with the Z2's gaming performance.

Crysis 2, Borderlands, Fallout, BF BC 2 all perform better than the bios hacked and overclocked Z1.

HOWEVER... SFIV, and the the whole COD series are signifigantly worse.

Valve games are on par with the Z1.

This leads me to believe its strictly drivers that need tuning and not a faulty design of the Lightpeak port/PMD.

Knowing this, I wonder what the poor performing games have in common and if we can nail down the poor portion of the drivers we currently have.

All I can say is that this Z2 is SCREAMING fast! If you can stomach the wait on better video drivers and are cool with the external GPU, the Z2 is an absolute winner.

I have been checking the Sony Outlet in the past 24 hours but I didn't chance upon that $1,500 Z1. It was always at $2,300+ (no discount yet). Too bad. Are you sure you got a Z, not an F? >:->

On a side note, got offered a new official Sony bpl20 large cap. battery for a decent price, which I probably will go for.

My Z has 4gb ram, is it worth upgrading to 8gb?

I am afraid my feedback is too late (just now saw your post), but fwiw, this is a screaming buy for $500! I imagine the screen is not very good quality, but 1600 X 900 is hard enough to find, let alone at 14". Between that and the SB i5 cpu, discrete gpu (though low end, still better than none at all), back lit kb...well, let's just say that at $500 it's hard to imagine getting more for your money.

In case you didn't go for it and now the sale is off (does it end at midnight 9/30 or midnight 10/1 or somewhere in between?) slickdeals.com has some pretty nice SB laptops for around the same price, just not quite as upscale configs.

Most important question: are they still available at that price?

Wow, $600 for a 14", 1600 X 900 SB i5-2410, AMD 6630, BD, backlit kb?!!! What is the difference (other than screen size) between this and and, say, and S model with similar specs? I'm thinking SB/SC because as far as I know they can be identically internally to an SA - and pretty much just like your CA - but with plastic rather than metal casing. But the SC is $999 at BB and it has a 1368X766 screen. Speaking of which, do you have the computer yet? I was wondering what the screen quality is compared to the 900p on the SA - can't possibly be worse, just wondering if it could be better.

For $600, I'm just blown away.

It's actually 630 + tax so about 670 for me. Screen is probably gonna be like the sa. A bit washed out but can be calibrated and it'll be glossy not matte

Well, congratulations! That's a great deal. I was just looking in both the outlet and the regular CTO pages for the CA and the lowest price I saw in the outlet was $829, but I don't think it had the hi res screen, the better gpu and the BD - I think it was missing one or possibly two of those three. Since each of those three upgrades cost about $50, then I would guess the outlet price for your model was something closer to $899, maybe a tad less. But taking 20% off, say, an $899 Outlet CA would make it $720 + tax and shipping. And the price for your configuration as a new CTO was about $1,000, so with 20% off that would be around $800 plus tax and shipping. So I'm just wondering, how did you get yours for $630 before tax and how did snowboardpunk get his for $500, when it would have had to have been priced at $625 in the Outlet, with 20% off to get it to $500 and, as i said, the one that's there right now similar to his config is selling for $829?

Please don't think I'm suggesting your numbers aren't right. I'm just trying to clarify how things worked out the way it did and if you know whether the sale lasts through the end of today.

EDIT: I had to go out and do things and never sent this, so now it's 2:30 PM EDT and surely too late for the sale, I imagine :( Still, would appreciate if anyone could explain the reason for the problems I had with the Sony site described above, and below, as I will be looking to pick up some bargains for friends and family next time a good sale comes along.

I had already written about this problem when I abandoned this post a couple of hours ago, but I tried again and still have the problem, so any thoughts would be appreciated:

One more question if I may. I've purchased from the Sony store and outlet before, but I'm stumped by something. When I tried to go through the transaction to see if the 20% discount would be applied at the end, I would first log in to my account, then put the computer in my cart, then go to purchase and it took me to a log in screen (new customer or returning), so I logged in - again - and then it took me to a new splash screen that was a "welcome to Sony" kind of thing, I clicked on "shopping cart," it brought it up, I clicked on " purchase" or whatever, the same button as I clicked the first time around, and the whole cycle keeps repeating itself, never getting to the window where I enter my credit card.

I still find the black CA w/ the same spec i got for $799 before discount. I got the white one at the same price. I just sort by display size (13-16), resolution (1600x900), and then just go from lowest to highest on price.

Thanks, I'll try it that way and see if it brings up the product, though even if the 20% off sale is good til midnight tonite EDT I don't think I'm going to have the time to troubleshoot both the problem accessing the product page and the even more aggravating problem of getting bounced out every time I put any item in my shopping cart and trying to complete the purchase. I've only bought, like, 6 computers from them this year.

Good luck with your purchase. I can't imagine a more impressive piece of gear for $630. Other than the screen and SSDs, it surpasses my Z11 in all other respects. Good going! Thanks again.

That happened to me more than once — and I noticed that the item in my cart had become “out of stock”.

Thanks. So nice to know I'm not crazy - scratch that. So nice to know that even crazy people have problems with web sites that normal people have too. ;)

Would be, if it wasn't for eBay sitting there, so easy to access, so easy a "great deal" on something you already have two of in your closet. Now that's crazy. :D

Received my Z today. Great one. Found out it also has the large battery (8100mh), which is good. But I am still considering buying a standard one to reduce the weight.

The coupon may be dead now, but there are more Z1's in stock at really good pricing.

    Heads up!

Wow, I second that strongly! These are easily 20% - 30% lower than any I've seen in the Sony Outlet before. Pretty much as good or better than the old prices with a 20% off coupon. We're talking 256GB, 1080p, CF starting at $1,249. Several are exactly half the price when new. Note: some of these say "1 year in home warranty" and also, further down, say "90 day warranty." So you should probably call to confirm that the ones showing 1 year will be honored as such. I don't know where Sony is still getting returns from to refurbish, but this may be your last, definitely best, deal on a Z1 from Sony.

That is definitely very helpful information.

Thanks for the heads-up. Appreciate it. :)

    Yep.

$1769 for a Z13 with 2.8 i7 512SSD 8GB 1080p. Only thing missing there is the Blu-Ray and Broadband. (Still on the site for sale)

I got a Silver Z13 with the same specs today for $1330! I called and complained about missing the 20% off sale that ended yesterday because their system would not let me check out.

    Suddenly $1700 became $1330. :D

Better watch out, with your recent purchases, someone is going to suspect you of having a relative at the Sony Outlet, lol! I mean, $2,700 with a fully maxxed out Z2, and now $1,330 for a fully maxxed Z13. Bet you're not going to sell any of them for close to what you payed.

Back on topic, you say you couldn't get through on the 20% sale that ended yesterday. I thought the one they had going ended 10/1.
