Some guys are selling brand new sony vaio's in just 400 dollars. I become a target of one of them. They asked for payment through western union to the third party "Amazon square trade", which is also fraud. After getting several positive replies from the seller, I send 400 dollars to them. Right after he recieved money, he even stop replying to my mails.

    Seller email was:[email protected]
    Seller name: Buruleanu Mircea
Seller Address :popa Sapca B1 M2
    Dragasani 245700, Romania

Is there anything i can do to get my money back? Kindly suggest me...

I saw some of those "deals" as well. I just went by the old saying that if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. I guess the only thing you can do is report them to Amazon and see what happens. There are so many scams like that on Amazon that they need to do something about it. If they let people list as sellers there then they need to have some sort of accountability.

Sorry that it happened to you.

I also got hit by this guy.Really discusting!!!
This guy used Amazon Square Trade to become a third-party.When I did the purchase,I realized it can be a fraud.because the next day,I didn't see his ad there any more.I would say be aware of those Romanians and they are another group of Nigerians.

Liar!I would recommend buying that after searching the web carefully about these guys!

I was defrauded by another guy named cesco_system from Canada on ebay last time, selling X505 for $1700. But I get my money back via Paypal and my credit card company.

You are lucky if you only lost $400, but you are bad lucky if you paid by western union.

Thank goodness I was led to this website when I searched on Amazon Square Trade!

I almost made the same mistake with the Romanians SOny Vaio K-37 for $500.
Once again, what seems to be too good to be true isn't. Still a useful addage in this electronic world.
Now I'm of to Best Buy to check out the real deals on SOnys and Toshibas.

    Thanks again!

They're still at it on Amazon. Every time they disappear off the list, they start with another name. The prices range from $400-700 lately. They've been doing it for at least the last few days. You can tell because they always want you to email them at a Yahoo account and then you get their little form letter(complete with misspellings):

The price for the laptop is 500 USD, the laptop is
brand new, with all standard accesries, instalation
    CD's and preinstaled Microsoft software.
For shipping i am using UPS and for the payment
Western Union managed by a third part service
    (Square Trade).
So please tell me if agree in starting a
    transaction,

    I wait your reply

    Thank you

The next level for form letters is this:

    Dear sir,

Square Trade will inform you about the information to where to
send the payment and they will keep this
information until you receive the package all you have
    to do
is to give me your final order and your
    shipping/personal
details so i could forward them to Amazon Square
    Trade:
    First Name:
    Last Name:
    Address:
    City:
    County/State:
    Zip Code:
    Country:
    Contact phone # :
    Transaction item name:

And they will inform you about all you have to do.

    I wait your reply,
    Thank you

It's all BS because Square Trade only operates on EBay, and Square Trade says:

SquareTrade will NEVER make a request for money.

The email that you received appears to be a fraudulent email and has no connection with SquareTrade. Please do NOT follow any of the
    instructions contained in the email.

So DON'T fall for it! If a price is too good to be true, then it is!

    Buyer Beware![ :p]

How funny! I just got another email. What a turkey....[xx(]

    Dear sir,

For understanding perfectly the situation managed by
this service(Square Trade) in holding a Western Union
payment you have to understand the system of sending
money by Western Union, this money transfer service is
a service that is not giving the money to the address
of the receiver, the receiver have to be present with
his vaild ID and the details of the transfer (MTCN -
Money Transfer Control Number , amount and sender's
details). The Square Trade is holding these
informations from me until i will send and you will
receive the package. The Square Trade system is
insuring the both of us in making a transaction like
this, is informing and invoicing you in making the
payment to the sellers details and it is confirming
the seller that this payment have been done so he
could start the shipping, but without giving any
details of the transfer. The seller invoiced to start
the delivery is starting the delivery and the buyer is
receiving thepackage and check it for 3 days, after
that the buyer is invoiced again for knowing if he
decides to keep the products or return it. In case of
deciding to keep the package the seller is informed
about the deposit details so he could receive the
    amount sent.
In this costs the insurance for the both seller and
buyer, we both have the guarantee that we are not
losing money or products and all the informations are
keeped and managed by this service.
Square Trade will inform you about the information to
    where to
send the payment and they will keep this
information until you receive the package all you have
    to do
is to give me your final order and your
    shipping/personal
details so i could forward them to Amazon Square
    Trade:

I am so sorry to hear that. I'd better research about this earlier because I am in the same situation. That cheater also has another email address:[email protected]. He uses the same information to obtain the payment: First Name: Buruleanu
    Last Name: Mircea
    Address: Popa Sapca BL M2
    City: Dragasani
    Zip Code: 245700
    Country: Romania

Was you able to do something about that?

    Khiem,

Don't tell me you sent them money! Yes, that's another of the emails I saw on Amazon. Notify Square Trade, Amazon, and Yahoo, and send them a copy of whatever emails you have from those idiots with the headers. It seems that Amazon has been pretty good about keeping them off their website lately, but that doesn't mean they've stopped!
Never, ever buy anything online using a cashier's check or money order ~ you're screwed if you do!

Sadly, I did. It was too busy for me on this Christmas time; therefore, I didn't spend time to research carefully about that "Amazon Square Trade." He caught me!
I am currently try to find a way to contact Amazon website provider, but I couldn't. There is none email address that we can complain with. I want to stop that cheater at least.

Wow, sorry to hear they got you. You can go to Amazon.com and click the "help" button. They have forms to fill out online, including one for not getting your order.

    Good luck!

Merry Christmas and be careful ~ they are over at Overstock.com now, and selling everything from $500 Sony Vaios to kid's bikes, DVD players, diamond tennis bracelets, and the old standby ~ plasma TV's.

Once again ~ be very careful:

Do not send auction payments by cashier's check, money order, or cash.

Do not use your debit card.

Do not use Bidpay.com ~ that is the new name for Western Union.

Use a credit card if possible; that way, if something happens, you can dispute the charge thru your credit card company.

I have just been ripped off as well. Amazon.com Seller used e-mail address: lls_electronics@netzero. I wanted to purchase a HP Ipaq HX4570 for $400. (seemed cheap-described new) He wanted 1/2 upfront, but I sent him $125.00-he e-mailed why? I guess he knew I later had regretted sending the money. No further e-mails. He used the name, Stefan Liviu LUNGOCI. Address, Tudopr Vladimirecsu Street,
Dragansani, Romania, Zip-245700. What a story...I kept ALL e-mail correspondence but don't know how to provide to AMAZON.com What's up with them, no screening of seller's. Who is supporting their site, buyers or thieves??? Buyers BEWARE./

Sorry you got taken, local! Make sure you let Amazon know. They have forms you can fill out online.

I'm so grateful I didn't buy from these idiots, but as long (and I know this is rough to hear) as they finding people that are greedy (they play to that), they will have victims.

If something is too good to be true, it is!!! If someone doesn't have enough good ratings over a period of time (not just a month or two) and they try to make deals with you, you'll get taken. I know that Paypal has its problems, but if you pay with a credit card on Paypal, you can dispute the charge thru your credit card company. Never, never pay cash or money order.

As long as people keep buying from these crooks, they will not go away.

Amazon do have buyer protection, but only if you buy through Amazon and pay through their system. That's why these guys get you to email them directly. Never, ever buy from someone on Amazon who asks you to go outside the Amazon system.

I have noticed that Amazon seems to shut down the bogus Vaio sellers. From the post above they seem to have migrated en masse to Overstock.

    Cheers

Yeah, you're right! Although this is the first time that I have ever gotten burned, I have learned a great lesson and should of responded to my first thoughts about the deal. Years ago, I had a "Family Sign Shop," and one day the Postman appears with a letter saying that a promotion was on where businesses were randomly entered thru the "yellow pages." That in order to redeem my new Television, I would have to PAY THE POSTMAN $50.00 FOR THE COUPON. I did and then called the local redemption outlet....to no avail..It was a hoax, thus using the 'FEDERAL POST OFFICE" as a legal source to "rip-off" a citizen *%^&^! The fed's said although the action was illegal, the system of doing so was o'kay. ALL PLEASE BEWARE THAT SCAMM!!!
I never had gotten my monies back either...Lesson well learned I say.

Hi, i recently made a transaction on amazon, for a canon digital camera, I noticed that the vendors unsually asked to be contacted by e mail, ignorantly I proceeded to buy a camera and 'check out' through amazon, I then e mailed the third party provider asking for details on the transaction, then they asked for my name and address, I told them I had already been charged by amazon, but they insisted i would get refunded for that and that I had to send them a money order, which i never did so i began to suspect something was wrong, so I called my bank and they said that the transaction through amazon did go through but its pending, so Im worried, i dont know if im gonna get it refunded or what, i dont know what to do!!!!

Heyday, contact Amazon.com immediately and let them know what happened. They *may* reverse your charge, but I'm not sure. You are out the money you sent to the crook. If you paid Amazon.com by credit card, notify your credit card immediately about the Amazon.com charge and dispute it...that may or may not work, but it's worth a try. Keep EVERYTHING you have for the credit card dispute...all emails, etc. That will back up your claim.

wow. i am so glad i found this forum in time. i was just about to send money to this guy also. i have been talking to a bunch of people who i suspected to be up to no good. they were all selling digital cameras worth over $1000 on amazon for around $500 dollars. they all seemed connected in some way. at least two said they were the financial manager for Alcor Systems. when the second one told me that she was the financial manager, i aksed her if she knew Anca Marian (the first person who said she was) she said that Anca Marian was a scammer and she was from the official Alcor Systems.

i actually have quite a collection of emails from a bunch of them.

heres a list of the names and emails i know of.
    Anca marian - [email protected]
    William Ashton - [email protected]
    Douglas Trinder - [email protected]
    Hilton Body - [email protected]
    Lupescu Marius - [email protected]

    Cinic Goodman - [email protected]
Kerry ann boney - [email protected]
    [email protected]
    Georgiana livia - [email protected]

i think im going to send this list of names to amazon.

Yep, you got taken for sure. Amazon.com does not misspell on their emails...that's a huge clue right there that what you got was a spoof.

Kiss it goodbye, and be thankful it was only $300. Many others have been taken for more[ :p]

    Another styoopid me....
Acer Ferrari for £450 - refurbished. Sounded pretty OK, considering the refurb part and that the Seller had 200 feedbacks, was rated 4.8 star on Amazon. And then he does the Western Union thing!! I didn't pay a penny via the WesternUnion thingy, but the £450 via Amazon Payments was charged to my debit card. I'm just hoping that the Amazon guarentee should be able to cover it, any of you obviously wiser guys ever heard of domeone receiving a reimbursement from Amazon under their A-z guarentee? Wud be grateful for some info...

Btw, it seems that gmail is now the latest fad amongst the fraudsters!
