I have the well known Vaio SZ spacebar issue, which didn't seem to bother me until i started word processing and using msn messenger again (new college term).

Is there anyway of repairing this issue without voiding the warranty?

Will sony repair this free of charge if i send it back?

I'm afraid it's not really that simple. You should have thought of it before you bought it (its a great laptop otherwise though). The button 'area' is small unfortunately. Just try to becareful in the future. I swapped mine and got an Asus A8Jm (I decided the 7400 wasn't as good as I expected. Well, sorry to disappoint you. Maybe someone else might be able to help you.

Yep, it works, I just tried it, too. (The video that goes around with it actually made it all seem worse and not worth trying to me, since by the looks of it, I thought it was some special piece of a synthetic material, or an insulating rubber pad, but all it really took was two 5x25 mm strips of standard black tape...)

And would they actually know you removed the spacebar to put some tape under it if you removed the tape before sending it back to them?

They keys are designed in a way so it allows for their removal...

I wouldn't worry about it, and the spacebar fix works beautifully.

Now, I wish I could get my keyboard replaced: the labels of the keys is now wearing off ! after only 4 months.

Are you saying the letters on your keys are wearing off? Very odd, first time I've heard of that in an SZ.

    Yep.
This is more obvious on the A S E and D letters. The writing is half gone. Never had that on a laptop before

I've also never heard about that before. Is it the English letters, or a second language printed on later?
Do you wash your hands before using the laptop with something that has alcohols? Like those hand wash lotions that smell like liquer.
