I searched for the answer to this question, but I can't find a definite answer, so......

Is it possible to replace the fan in this model with something else more quiet? I know I can turn it down, but due to the fact that these notebooks are notorious for running hot, I have concerns about doing so.

    Any ideas????

I'm guessing that it can't be done then. :(

Aren't the fans in the new s5xx series supposed to be quieter? I don't see why you couldn't call up sony, get the part number, and order one. Given the compactness of the S series layout, it almost has to be the same dimensions as the original s360 fan. But better to check with somebody first.

That is what I was wondering about, but I wasn't sure. Maybe someone else can confirm whether or not the new ones are quieter?

So can anyone confirm that the newer S460 or later model fans fit the S360? Also, are they in fact quieter?

The new fan is available on the S5xx models. From personal experience it appears that the fan is a direct replacement for the previous S models. The main difference is the design of the fan blades. The fan is noticeably quieter.

Cool, thanks for reply! I may have to give Sony a call and try and order the newer style fan.

I just sent mine in for fan replacement. I just got it back yesterday and its seems better. If its still under warranty, complain and have Sony replace your fan. I called them on a Wednesday, received a return box w/labels on Thursday, sent it in the next Monday and got it back on Friday. Very quick turn around.

Digging up an old thread, but..

Does anyone have the part number for the S5XX fan. I just got an older S360 and I'd love to replace the fan in this thing.

    Thanks
