    So, I have a VGN-NW240F
    Sticker on the bottom says Model: PCG-7184L

    I have contacted Sony directly, and to my amazement, they cannot give me any additional information nor even look up information on this unit by its service tag #.

    Here is my question:

    How do I determine which *exact* model I have? I am trying to replace the battery and online I see batteries for the following models:

    VGN-NW240F/B
    VGN-NW240F/P
    VGN-NW240F/S
    VGN-NW240F/T
    VGN-NW240F/W

    Nowhere on this laptop does that trailing character after the "/" appear anywhere.

    Any ideas?

    In my experience with Sonys the / ? is representative of the colour of the model EG VGN-NW240F /S = Silver ECT.

    There should be a part number on the battery its self if so use this to find a battery.

    Look for VGP-BPS13*.
    * is just a wildcard.

    In any case, the last letter has almost always referred to the color of the unit, so that one isn't really going to be a compatibility factor.

    Edit: Somehow I missed the second post already stating this. :rolleyes:

    If you boot into the bios it should tell you your exact model and serial number.
