My Vaio VGN N27GH has been overrun with ants. I now face the daunting prospect of getting them out. Apart from hoping for good advice on how to do this, can anyone tell me how to open the laptop. I know where all the screws are, I know how to remove the CD drive, but I cannot find the last component to lift the keyboard and cover off. Thus the ants remain.

    thanks

That sounds rather disgusting. I sympathize.

I cannot help you with how to lift off the keyboard and cover - I'm sure there are plenty NBRs who can. Regardless though, I would suggest you to buy a can of compressed air (including a straw for the nozzle). Use this to gently blast away those ants.

thanks for the reply, but this method did not work. Ants are incredibly tenacious and compressed air just moves them about. Baygon sprayed on to a paper towel an left over a thin towel on the keyboard with the lid closed is very effective, but dooes not get them out either, nor does leaving the laptop in the refrigerator overnight, though like the insecticide it is partially successful. I'm left with only getting the lid off and resorting to the vacuum cleaner

Yeah I'd agree with blasting them out with air, you could also just pour some very sticky syrup nearby and all the ants will eventually go for it and get stuck (make sure its sticky enough otherwise ur notebook will get further messed up). Me and some friends did something similar in a kitchen ... they eventually killed themselves ... seems like ur notebook needs general cleaning nyway unless ants have taken a liking for silicon :0

ha ha, that brought more ants that I could imagine :) had to hose down the table. I think I'm going to have to take it to Sony and get them to sort it out. With the top off it'd be a snack

The ants will die from the heat eventually.

Well seeing as this thread was dug up after 10 months and the average lifespan of an ant is significantly less than that i think it's safe to assume their dead.
