    Hey,

    I was looking at buying a Sony VGN-FZ21S. I didn't know it was actually released yet but I saw there has already been a few threads from people that already own it... so obviously it is.

    If anyone that reads this does have one could you let me know:

    * How noisy it is?
    * Battery life?
    * Does the HD click when inactive like most Sonys appear to?

    Any answers would be great! Thanks in advance :D

    Hi

    Great laptop brillient screen extreamly quiet the battery life is short i only manage to get bout 2 hours with everything set to low. hd clicking I aint noticed but I expect thats the head parking.

    bad point would be vista software mine had a block in the reg in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Windows\sidebar

    turnoffsidebar key was in there had to set d_word from 1 to 0 to get my sidebar running

    it would be an ace laptop if the battery lasted longer an vista want so anoying!

    is the fz, in your opinion, still a lower end laptop? I think it looks great, but seems to be mediocre in all other respects

    I think not its depends on the model I think its great and a solid laptop not many others offer blueray and stick in hdmi and a nvidea 8600gs to match.

    Its screen is bright and very clear the best i seen out of all the laptops when I visited my local store even better than some of the mac books displays.

    It shocked me to find that the hard disk is so easy to upgrade just one screw holding a cover plate :) ram the same....its graphics are great i aint a gamer but it runs the sims2 very smooth at full res and settings even flightsim x is good aswell.

    the only thing i can say is the battery its eaten very quick but as this is more of a desktop replacement i aint to fussed

    Sonys model that tops the Fz is the AR series but very bulky with 17inch screen I dont think theres a laptop out there that can match the style and new technolgy and price of the FZ and blueray seems to be the way atm...the fz seems a balance of both style and performance not like some prada dressed handbag with bugger all inside.

    Thanks Aibo82! I wasn't too worried about battery life anyway - just as long as it's quiet. Will probably get one next week (only big down-point for me is the poor 1280x800 resolution)

    I have agree with Aibo.
    Personally, the new FZ's are not low end. The specs speak for themselves and performance tests from what I've done are especially good for the hardware installed.

    That is very useful to know, I am definitely getting one now, and knowing that the HDD is easy to replace is fantastic, I was planning to add a seagate 7200.2S HDD to complement the other wonderful specs for its size.

    But I will have no battery life one that has happened... Oh well.

    Vista would be annoying if I had any intention to use it. The moment I get the laptop Ubuntu will be installed so that I can get the AIGLX goodness of compiz fusion. Sorted.

    I wouldn't say 5400RPM is bad tbh. It's probably the norm speed for most laptops these days. A 4200RPM HD however is definetly worth an upgrade.
