will it be good for surfing, watching movies, playing some games?
i have a 200 dollar gift card to the site, so im really leaning towards buying it.

You are buying a ticking time bomb! It has Nvidia 8000 M series GPU which will fail after one year of use!
Don't buy it. Avoid at all cost! Avoid all notebooks with Nvidia 8000 M Series. -
Not all Nvidia 8000 series are affected. Mine is just fine.
-
really? it got pretty good reviews for the most part.
-
what about the one that im buying? it got pretty good reviews
-
I would advice not buying it. This model is discontinued by Sony. More newer models are out there. Consider the FW series.
-
It has good reviews because the bomb won't go off until after one year of use. Don't take the risk. Read the link in my original message.
-
the thing is that i need a sony vaio from overstock.com, cuz i have a gift card from them.

any other computer you see? -
You can take risk, if you are lucky not to get the defective nvidia card.
-
Pick another model without Nvidia 8000 M series or better yet, get the one with ATI GPU.
-
Overstock.com is a terrible place to buy a new laptop (overpriced/discontinued/refurbished!). If I were you I would sell the gift card on ebay and buy a laptop from somewhere else...
-
well i dont wanan spend more then 800ish bucks
-
overstock has some good reviews tho so why is it a terrible place?
-
There are some notebooks in your link that cost less than 800 bucks and don't use Nvidia 8000 M Series.
-
link ???? are they better then the one i posted.

For now. All the Nvidia 8000 series chips are ticking time bombs. Yours and mine included. Tick. Tick. Tick.
Gary -
is it that scary?? ff?
-
Yes it does. Here's a thread with pictures of an FZ when the bomb went off!
-
well can you recommend me a good sony laptop on there site for under 900?
-

Just stay away from any of them with the Nvidia 8000 series chips and you will be fine.

Since you have your heart set on a Sony from Overstock, how about this one?

Less money, and no nVidia card. Also no BluRay, but you may not care about that. But this one has the Hi-Color screen and your original choice had the Eco screen. This screen is better.
OK, now everyone pummel me for recommending a computer with Intel graphics.
