If you search, you will find that most users have the same problem with the space bar. If you have to press hard in the middle, that is NOT normal, and I would return it or have it sent in for repair. If you have trouble with it registering a keypress when pressing near the ends of the space bar, that IS normal. Its not good, but it is normal. There is a simple little fix for the space bar that takes less than 5 minutes to do. Credit Ikaris for the solution.

Now before you rant about having to do this with your brand new $2K machine, realize that we have all heard it before, and agree, but if you want it to work right, you are probably going to have to fix it yourself. Sony may come up with a fix eventually, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I had done the fix and afterward developed this symptom.

Turned out that I had missed getting the little metal clip back in it's notch properly resulting in a even less responsive spacebar.

I opened it back up last night and was horrified to see that I had bent the little metal tab that the key hooks under.

Take a look in there and make sure everything is seated correctly

sweet that works! now I can type with no spacebar problem issue. :D  Becareful though when you take it off. Because there is that thingy holding it on both sides. So, pull up the bottom side on both sides with your thumb up until about 30 degree angle and slide it down. If you pull it all the way up you'll break the thingy. I used 1.5mm 3M double tape and only tape to one side of it. It seems curve up in the middle a bit though, I will find thinner one once i get to Home Depot or Lowes. Good thing, now I can press the spacebar anywhere and still works! Good luck all!

Here is how I did mine:
    1. positioned both thumb nails on both sides of the spacebar
    2. Lift it up slowly and you'll hear clicking noise and stop at about 25-30 degrees. I recommend you to try to have a vision and see the hinges while lifting it up
    3. Pull it in toward your direction. That way you wont break the plastic holding the hinges.
    4. Place the double sided tape underneath the spacebar right above the sensor.
    5. Put everything back in. Don't forget to slide the hinges back in before you press down hard the spacebar to lock it to secure position.

    Good Luck!
