I have looked around but could not find any. Has anyone come across and reliable reviews of the new SZ6 series ? Really looking for info on things like the build, the keyboard, and benchmarks.

I know it has only been out for a short time, but I was hoping to at least see if it is worth the purchase.

    Thank you.

I am just now getting a chance to play with my SZ680 and I have to say I'm MUCH more impressed with it over the Dell XPS m1330 I recently returned to Dell.

The keyboard is a bit noisy as the buttons are very clicky but I don't mind much, someone else may find it annoying sitting next to you though?

I see some flashlight beams emanating from the bottom of the screen on a white background or light blue background. It bothers me. Other than that, seems like a pretty good screen with a bluish hue to the whole thing, though.

By contrast, I saw an LED screen on a 15" macbook pro and it as dove white. More impressive, in my opinion. Then again, mind you--with a screen it is ALWAYS luck of the draw, b/c the companies use multiple suppliers for screens.

Hmmm... they managed 4.3 hours just on battery, just wondering how everyone else is getting on theirs? Monstermaxxx said he got around 3 hours, which seems abit short.

Just recieved my SZ680 on Friday, I ordered it at the Sony Store at the local mall where I recieved $300 promotion off the Perchase which went toward the three year warranty in total $2339 on Tues. the Aug 21 and recieved it on Fri. Aug 24. I had previously ordered a Dell M1330 on July 22 which I never recieved due to all the backorders(cancelled it). I love SZ680 First thing I noticed was the bright screen of the led screen I able to go outside and see the screen clearly on a sunny day. This is also a pretty power lappy for the size, I've already have done some video editing and rendering on this unit and this baby flys I'm very impressed. I recommend the SZ680 to anyone looking for power in a small package. This is the 7th Laptop I've owned and when It comes to size and power this one is second to none.

Ray, which version are they selling in-store?
Is it the SZ 680 CTO? Does it come only with ATT's edge as an option for WLAN?
[That's how Sony Style has it listed. Sony For Business has Sprint's EVDO as their only option for same, but last I checked, its not yet shipping]

The SZ680 CTO I ordered was done online at the store, on the Sony Style web site. The reason I did it at the store and not at home was to recieve the discount they offered me at the store $300. You can purchase it with the Sprint WAN which is the only option I believe. They do not sell the SZ680 in Stores though because its a custom biuld model.

Can you find ANY SZ model with Vista Home Premium instead of Business??

I went to Best Buy today for the hundredth time and they had the SZ650 in which was a pleasant surprise and I thought the quality build on this was lightyears better than their older 4xx series. Of course the 650 is all black and that 4xx was silver which was hideous (if you can't tell by now I hate the sz in silver haha).

If only I could find one with Vista Home Premium instead of business...

Only the non premium SZ's had silver, which also are the only one's on Sony's website that have a choice of Home Premium.

I called Sony, and the $300.00 off deal is a back to school special. The offer if for students going back to school. However there is a catch and of course Sony isnt that nice. You must purchase the 3 year on site + accidental damage warrenty and I believe mouse and case accessory??? I know for sure you have to get the warrenty, which is basically all the savings. Anyways it is still a good deal. After tax and delivery the sony SZ is still rather pricey.
But the best part about getting the CTO 680 is that you can get the large capac. battery!

Were there any other deals when you called? Someone else said they had gotten a better deal from calling Sony than from ordering online. Were they just talking about the back to school thing? Actually that would help me out because I have school in a month, however if it's just for an extended warranty than I don't really care I guess.

yah u need mouse and case -- cheapest is $50 total

but the warranty is well worth it -- its onsite, covers accidents, and sonystyle stores can also do repairs for you

I too am very surprised that there are no reviews. This is, by far the best ultra-portable laptop on the market right now (this, and the dell m1300 in my mind, which is a close 2nd)

Agree with the $200 off deal from Sony -- got a brand new SZ650 for $1850!

As a current student, would you suggest ordering online from sony's store over portable one?

P1 is really good, and if u are fussy in upgrading your 5400rpm drive to 7200rpm they can do it without voiding warranty, plus they can remove bloatware (so can you).

Downside is P1 cannot give the current discounts running from sony ($200 off SZ or $300 off student discount with warranty purchase)

I ordered from them (order is in progress) but do they just uninstall all the bloatware? Or just clean install the system themselves? And does this cost anything extra?
