    Any chance of holiday deals on the S580?

    I'm wondering whether the SonyStyle store ever offers deals for the holidays, on "black Friday" or otherwise. I'm thinking of ordering an S580 and I don't know whether I'm better off ordering while they're in stock or waiting a few more days to see.

    It will be intersting to see if there's one. The way I see it, most of the stuffs they sell at the day after thanksgiving sale are those they want to get rid off. a.k.a not the really hot stuffs. They might sell some of the good stuffs, but they'd be long gone.

    Amazon.com had the S-series on sale, not sure if it is still there. Worth a look though. www.Amazon.com.

    I don't expect Sony to ever have any holiday deals, they seem to be very stingy in my opinion.

    I'd be happy to buy from Amazon, but I don't think you can get the S580, only the othe S5xx models, which come preconfigured. If those came with internal Bluetooth I'd already have one, but the only way to get that seems to be to order a custom S580 directly from Sony.

    I did notice that the Sony Style website changed the deal on the S580 last week. They had been offering a free upgrade from 256MB to 512MB ($50 value) which is nice because 512MB is necessary in order to get the upgraded graphics (I'll be adding my own RAM at $75/GB instead of Sony's insane $350/GB and don't want to have to put any more money into the included RAM). Now that deal is gone and instead they're offering a free extra year on all two- and three- year warranty plans. I'll be getting the two year accidental damage plan, and this extends my coverage to three years ($119 value) which would be great except that I expect I'll have replaced the notebook two years out. This new deal will actually cost me $50 more for the configuration I want :(.

    Please read the thread before posting, savegreenbacks. I asked about the S580, which is only available direct from Sony. There are two offers on the SonyStyle site which have been there for a while: the $100 rebate (expires April 30), and free shipping (expires Dec. 1). There's also the extended warranty deal which I mentioned above (expires Dec. 5). If you are aware of anything else please let us know!

    I do wonder what the offers will be (if anything) after the shipping and extended warranty ones expire. I wish I knew whether to wait until tomorrow or next week! <sigh>

    according to the customer service guy i just purchased my s580 from from sonystyle's 877 number. the promotions currently out will be the only ones for the holiday season. those would be the +1 yr acc. damage warrenty, free shipping, and [not sure if its a real "deal"] the upgraded wifi card.

    he might have just said that to provoke me to purchase or not... you can wait to see if the deal sweetens. but free shipping expires on dec. 1 i think.

    It's not clear whether free shipping is good until midnight Nov. 30 or midnight Dec. 1 (in whatever time zone) but the offer is presented as running from Nov. 1 through Dec. 1 on the Sony Style website.

    Update: Free shipping extended to mid december

    now to see what happens to the free warrenty upgrade that will expire today.
