    :(
I have sz360 and trying to boot from USB drive. So far I haven't been successful yet. I have tried (boot from external was enabled) with PNY Attache 512MB (USB-ZIP, I got the emulator type from my desktop bios) and Kingston DataTraveler 1GB (USB-HDD) with on luck. Sony doesn't recommend and support for this matter. I am wondering if anyone knows what to do with the situation. I guess that there might be a hidden menu inside the bios to enable this funtionality. If anyone knows about this, please share with me or anyone has been successful booting from USB drive, please let me know what the brand and model that you used. I will be very appreciative. ;)

i work with a huge variety of sony laptop daily. I find that some of them is really strange. You need to disable some bootable device or change the orders to get it to work. It sometimes doesn't work when you put usb devices on priorty order. last time it took me about half an hour kept trying different combination to get it working.

In addition i have a few usb pendrives that I use at work for rescue etc. I've got a usb bootable mac, xp and dos. The dos one seems to work the best maybe cos its fat32. It also depends on the boot sector on the usb hdd. So you might want to format it in different ways with different system files. Best is probably linux tools.

Thanks for replying. But so far I still have no luck with the problem. I called the Sony Rep. and spent almost half an hour with him. Finally, he gave me a possible solution to use external powered USB hub since the USB ports of my Sony has very low voltage (might not be enough for the USB thumb drive). I have tried it after I arrived home but it still doesn't work. I have tried all the possible boot device combinations but none of them worked. Anyways, you mentioned that you have tried with many Sony. I'm wondering if you have any success with any of SZ series?
