I noticed that the majority of users here that are trying to upgrade their "unsupported" notebooks are upgrading from 64-bit or going from 32-bit to 64-bit.
I was wondering if anybody had problems upgrading (using clean install) from 32-bit to 32-bit?
I will try to upgrade my notebook (Vaio vgn-FZ290) next week. Im going from vista home premium 32-bit to Win7 Professional 32-bit. I will attempt to use Win7 Update's drivers, original vista 32-bit drivers, and modified drivers from laptopvideo2go for my NVIDIA GeForce 8400m GT.
Any luck with similar circumstances? Thank You!

I know, i read your tread about an inplace upgrade. However, I have Vista Home Premium 32-bit and I want to upgrade to Win 7 Professional 32-bit. Im trying to shrink my partition down so i can clean install win7 on a separate partition for now and test it out to see if i can ditch vista for good.
If Win7 is not running the same, if not better, as vista did on this laptop, then I might "Stick with Vista"
Dr. Pratik said in a link in your signature that he simply ran Windows Update, then installed the rest using Vista drivers. Ill tinker around with it and let you all know. -
I had done a good Windows 7 32-bit Installation using Vista 32 bit drivers and utilities on SZ440N. It works fine, with all the function keys etc.
You should give it a try. You should collect the latest version of drivers applicable to your hardware (not necessarily limiting to your Sony Model).
If you are trying to install win7 on separate partition, that would help you, because Win7 considers the installation drive as C: drive, thereby avoiding issues of co-mingling system installation with other existing installation on C: drive of earlier OS. -
I did it on my SZ650N and it is working fine. Almost everything was automatically installed by Windows, except the camera and FN keys.
For those, I used the drivers from Vista and it worked like a charm! I really advise you to give it a try. It does worth it! -
Yes, I successfully upgraded my Z-620D from 32-bit Vista to Windows 7 32-bit professional. Everything works, I posted about my experience here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=426448&page=21 .
Any successful Vaio 32-bit to 32-bit Windows 7 Upgrades?
