I was hoping to find some video of the Z with the higher res screen in action, preferably playing WoW. I almost bought one last week but since I don't need it right now I want to make sure it will work for me instead of buying and then finding out. How long could you game on a standard battery? I have asked a few times under the various threads but I have yet to get a repsonse.

It's too slow for gaming. If you want to play games and still want a small notebook, get something with a faster graphics card and CPU, like the Asus Z50 series.

The VGN-Z is meant as an executive/enthusiast travel model, being fast at business type tasks, while being small and light enough to actually bring with you everywhere, and doubling up as a DVD/Blueray player for boring plane trips. It's like a slightly bigger TT/TZ that's actually fast enough to do some real work.

Not sure how you work that out to be honest.

Reference original posters WOW game playing. Go for it WOW plays perfectly on this machine at native res. with only shadows turned down at 40fps if you turn the ground clutter down it will give u about 56fps - perfect frame rates. Yo will get around 2 hours gaming on wow at os high performance settings with backlight full. but gaming on any laptop on battery is always a power monster.

I have also played Warhammer online and Lord Of The Rings Online on this machine - its perfectly adequate for these games.

Reference other small notebooks - nothing comes close to the LCD on the sony's plus the build quality if u ask me.

Well, I can't really say how it behaves with World of Warcraft, as it's a game I've never played. However, considering that it's over 4 years old, it may work well even with weaker graphics cards.
The three games I have tried so far didn't work well on my Z-590 with a 2.53 Mhz P9500 and 3 GB RAM:

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Even at minimal settings, it becomes a slideshow when fighting multiple foes outdoors.

The Witcher: Even at minimum settings, it's too slow to be playable. Which is a shame, with the movement control (when not using over-the-shoulder) being uniquely well suited to touchpads.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Completely unplayable, unless you turn the settings down so far that it looks like Microprose Flight Simulator from the 80s.

You should be able to play most of those games on medium settings at 1280 by 800. If not, something is up with your laptop...

Did you make sure that your power options were at high performance instead of power saver?

Even with the updated graphics from Lich King last month it still performs like this.

The games you mentioned should play ok at a slightly lower res and some details turned down.

I think u need to check your settings and make sure you are using the geforce not the intel. If not like a prior forum member stated i really think something is wrong with your laptop.

The only acceptable resolutions on a VGN-Z590 is 1600x900 and 800x450. 1280x800 would not only make things blurry because of the resampling, but also skew the aspect ratio, making objects squat or thin, and change their shape as they rotate. I don't know about you guys, but trying to play a game where the aspect ratio is off makes me seasick.

Any chance someone would be willing to video your Z running native resolution playing World of Warcraft with the FPS meter running?

I really want to see this before I spend $2000 and having to return it and pay a restocking fee because it did not work for me.

I would really appreciate it and I would be willing to send over a few bucks through PayPal even just so you know I am serious.

I have "left for Dead" from Steam playing on my Z and it absolutely rocks on the mid settings.

I have a 2.8ghz processor with 4gb ram and 7200rpm drive - so of course this may change with the configuration you have.

Was under the impression that Sony does not charge a restocking fee for returns within 30 days of purchase.

If you game is able to select 1280x800 resolution, you can set it at that, and have your graphics card maintain the right aspect ratio (you will get those black blinders on the sides, though). That's how I play Diablo 2 on the Z in 800x600 resolution.
