The switch on the Z turns both Bluetooth and the Wifi adapter on / off.

I don't have any reason to use a Bluetooth device while on battery, so
I was wondering if there's a way to make the Bluetooth turn off when on battery power, regardless of the switch ( and preferrably, to do it automatically ).

Is there a way to do this?

I don't think it's doable as i think the most common thing on sonys notebooks are that the wifi has the bluetooth integrated into it.

And that's also why there is one switch for wifi+bt.

So I'd have to do it through the device manager?

Use the SmartWi Connection Utility to keep Bluetooth permanently off until you turn it on again. It's under the start menu.

Yeah sure, but it won't save you any power/battery time. If that was your idea as the BT is integrated with the wifi.

    Yeah, that was the idea.

So you mean the wifi switch doesn't control both pieces of hardware, you're saying that it's the same piece of hardware that handles BT and wifi?

    bummer...

Exactly! The bluetooth is one with the wlan-card.

Hence there is only one button for turning both the wlan & bluetooth on or off.

this is the best option but the one main thing i don't like about is that the sony smart wifi utility is a MEMORY HOG!!

    AND

I can't get the smartwifi to open proplery unless i have it in the startup processes too which is freakn' annoying.

Doesn't the Wireless Switch Setting Utility allow this? Maybe it's XP only? Works for me on my Z, anyway... ;)
