Does anybody have Sony Win XP Downgrade Disc for their notebooks?
Does EVERYTHING work perfectly, I mean everything including all FN keys, special buttons, Power Management, VAIO Control Center etc? Which model do you have?

Got the XP downgrade discs last year and everything works perfectly. Wished would allow me to specify to only restore the first partition and have more flexibility on partition sizes so I don't have to back up the entire drive and use BootitNG to re-size the partitions.

No not everything works just from the disc alone, there are a stack of drivers and apps, that are not installed as part of the restore discs i have SR and BZ i needed to manually download from the sony site and use the drivers.

Newest series have an exe file that a user have to run and it install everything. Very handy. But older models needs step by step installation, which takes lots of time.

I popped in a fresh hard drive into the SZ and used the XP discs. Everything worked without the need of me hunting for drivers or even putting in the discs again after booting XP.

With that said, I still had to do the usual bloatware removal. :(

new series ( my SR and BZ ) both had installers, BUT they dont install everything, infact not all functions work without further installations and downloads. The XP image is a basic image and doesnt automatically provide support for all features, eg the mode button, web cam etc..

For my z555, I got 2 DVD disks, which when I used didn't give me full functionality i.e. function keys. Any advice?

How about the 5 Switch Buttons, the Setting Button, all Fn Keys and Vaio Control Center?

You can try Webcam Software for Vista version and use Universal Extractor http://legroom.net/software/uniextract to bypass the model and OS checker.

    Thanks for the info.

The 5 switch buttons work, as does the setting button. All Fn keys work, except for F9 and F10 (zoom in/out). Vaio Control Center I'm not sure about. I don't see anything labeled that anywhere. There's "Vaio power management" and "Vaio Recovery" in my program list, but I don't know if that's the same thing.
