My SR is dropping signal a lot. I can't tell if it's my card or my router. Funny thing is that it drops every like 5-15 minutes but only for 2-5 seconds then resumes with the "excellent" connection. updated all my firmware/drivers and no luck.

any ideas? anybody else getting this on their VAIO?

If you are using XP, make sure 802.1x authentication is disabled.

You might try turning it off for your connection anyway. Supposed to be fixed in Vista, but I saw a KB article which seemed to indicate there may still be problems in some cases.

    1. Go to Start > Control Panel.
    2. Go to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Manage network connections.
    3. Right-click your wireless network, and click Properties.
    4. Go to Security tab, and in the Security Type list click No authentication (Open).
    5. Click OK.

Are you using WEP or WPA? Another thing to try is disabling IPv6.

    I was using WPA2.

I tried this: Enabling only -g on my router and only -g on my intel wifi card. I'll see how this works...

One thing for sure- my internet is 100% fine. was using ethernet connection perfection for nearly 1 hour.

Another thing that concerns me that I have not tried yet is ditching my wireless mouse. I read that other wireless devices may interfere. Hmm..if the -g only thing fails, I'll try unplugging my wireless mouse...

Funny thing was I remember having this mouse on my old laptop and had d/c on wifi at school...yet my girlfriends older laptop at the time had no such issues and she used no mouse... On a note, I did change the channel from 6 to 11 on my router...havent tried 1 yet.

OK, so 802.1x is probably not the issue as long as are not using one of the "Enterprise" options. Forcing G is a good idea. Sometimes negotiation breaks.

Here a long list of stuff to try.

wow thanks! ill have to try those if the g method doesn't work.

edit: SO FAR SO GOOD! been about 25 minutes straight and no sign of dropped connection.

If this is truly a fix..I wonder if it had to deal with the whole new draft N thing perhaps interfering with the g signal...or maybe it is the old A signal interfering or even B. Who knows. I'll try each one if the -g only works flawlessly to narrow it down.
