Just got my disc and have an SZ650.I already clean installed my own copy of XP PRO with Sony drivers and bios update and have everything working great.I'm afraid to try the disc!...Can anyone report on what bloatware the Sony disc retain from Vista and does anyone know if a 'downgrade' somehow turns Vista into XP PRO or does it literally install a fresh copy of it.

Ok, if you want to try it, make sure you make a copy of Windows Vista Recovery Disks. The Downgrade doesnt let you "go back". It installs a lot of bloatware, just like vista. Everything works good, except i still had the IDE 2 or whatever it was problem in my device manager. If you have a copy of XP working all nice and stuff, why would you want to install it from the downgrade disk? It replaces the recovery partition with XP recovery. Thats all i can think of right now

    Hello,

I'm new here and had ordered the disc before finding the downgrade info on this forum, which i'm most greatful for.
This is also my first Vaio and I was surprised at all the bloatware.I'm used to Panasonic toughbooks that come lean and mean.
I wanted to try the disc to maintain the integrity of the Sony OEM XP PRO.
