Just curious in case I have to send my laptop in for repair. How are they? Do they try to find issues that would allow them not to fix the laptop under warrenty? Or do they pretty much fix anything that goes in? Do they send you a box to send in the laptop?

I did, but mine's a Japanese one so it went back to Japan. I didn't deal with Sony USA. See my thread on the SZ meeting an airplane seat. Bottom line is they fixed it at no cost to me.

Ah I remember reading that. Oh that sucked.
Btw, over time, have you noticed your screen getting dimmer?

That would be the latter (send you a box to sent in the laptop). I had a problem with my touchpad buttons. Afterwards, I read about the fix in the forums about the extra space underneath the touchpad so maybe I pressed too hard on the buttons?

Check this thread out. Try a search as well. This topic comes up every couple of weeks. There is a lot out there on it. I have used warranty service a few times, always successfully. They will charge you if you are out of warranty.

Sony will send you a box for repairs with overnight FedEx shipping pre-paid for (the box is shipped out to you via overnight FedEx shipping as well). Once your repair is made, Sony will ship your notebook back to you via FedEx overnight.

Sony told me my warranty was void because I had taken it overseas with me :p I dont mean I baught it in the US and tried to have it serviced in Australia, I mean I baught it in the US went to Aus then when back to the USA and they said my warranty was void because it left the country :p I had to have a yelling match with the supervisor until he gave in because he couldnt show me anywhere under the warranty info that this was the case.

There is no policy that I know of that voids your warranty by traveling with your computer. That would be a business killer. I have no doubt though that a first level call screener might believe something like that. What next, your warranty is voided when you board an airplane or plug into a hotel power outlet? I have had trouble when trying to get warranty work done outside of the US, but that was understandable to an extent and required just a few more minutes of explanation.
