I just got my Vaio Z a month ago, and I am having really sporadic sleep issues, but I don't think it may be my computer.

1.) Sometimes when I wake the computer from sleep, the computer won't connect to the wireless network. I either have to restart the computer or enable/disable the adapter. Most recently, it froze for two seconds.

Next two might be caused by Zune:
2.) I plugged my zune in before sending it to sleep, and the Vaio Z did not wake up.

3.) Zune Media Player crashed when I went from Battery (Stamina) -> Sleep -> Wakeup on Charger (Speed)

I am really concerned about the first one though.

Edit : Secondly is anyone double clicking unintentionally sometimes? Sometimes I will get errors about "waiting 20 seconds till next post" because I double clicked the submit by accident. I will admit I messed around with the driver to enable things like multitouch.

Haven't had that problem (1). Are you using the stock sony wifi drivers?

Had that problem with my old Z (VGN) , not the new Z11

It's happens sometimes that a computer won't boot or wake up properly when a certain usb device or just usb cable is connected to certain usb ports. I haven't left my zune hd connected to my Z while it sleeps, but i'll try tonight.

Yep, I am using the stock wifi drivers. Looks like its a random bug, I will try updating the driver.

There was an "update" (6/20/10) on sonys esupport website, but the version number was still 13.1.1.1, not problems yet, but as I said before the problem was sporadic.

Okay the problem happened again. I looked around and the SmartWi was off. I switched it on, and still no luck. Then I went to Intel's Wireless Event Viewer and it said "The Wireless Adapter's Thermal Throttling is active"

This obviously isn't good. It looks like a heat issue (not suprised, its scorching in my room). But I am not sure if thats the real problem as my CPU/GPU seems to stay at 60 degrees.

Did you try updating to Intel's 13.2.1.5 wireless drivers? Since 13.1.1.1 and some older ones have troubles with connection dropouts ;-).

Everything I've read states that the original sony wifi drivers work great and many of the newer drivers....either via sony or intel can cause those "thermal throttling" issues.

This partially helped, but now on wakeup, I have to reconnect to the network (it won't do it automatically). I am going to try Intel's drivers.
Edit: Intel's drivers worked (support.intel.com), using driver version. 13.2.1.5 rather than 13.1.1.1 that my laptop shipped with.

I am experiencing some issues with sleep as well.

    1. put computer to sleep for an extended period of time. so on my bedside table i noticed that i haven't touched the computer and i hear it turn on BY ITSELF!
    - when i open the lid the screen is off.
    - i have to press the power button sometimes to really wake it up
    - one time i had to hold the power button down to turn the computer off and restart the machine.

    has anyone experienced this?
