Hello,
Was wondering if anyone knew the correct installation process for drivers/programs/utilities after a clean install of vista business on the US Version SONY TZ 190 laptops?
I keep getting error messages after i install the drivers in no order:
1. "The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer."
"Click 'OK' to enter Hibernate mode, and remove & re-insert the battery"
----------- OR -----------------
2. Microsoft.NET Framework"

Please don't post large and or bolded text. I, personally, find it offensive to look at and disrespectful.
Did you install the Sony UtilDLL package and Shared Library first?
Look, you can't just post something like that and expect us be able to suddenly know what is wrong.
When I read your post, and specifically the Unable to load DLL "C:\Program Files\ Common Files\ Sony Shared\ Sony Utilities\SnyUtils.dll" part, my first thought would to check if there is that file that it is looking for. If there is not, then you did not install the two crucial packages like we suggested.
If you did everything as we suggest in your previous thread (I don't know why you needed to post another one), then try contacting Sony and asking them directly. -
I did everything that you all suggested. Excuse the large post.. I'm new to all this forum stuff. I don't mean to offend anyone.
I cannot contact sony.. i was told by a sonystyle backstage technician that if i install a clean install of vista business.. they can no long help me with my system... (Even if i had lost my recovery discs). They said that invalidates the warranty for customer contact support...
therefore.. i was told by them to go join this forum and i should find my answer here....
so.. me... who has no knowledge or prior experience with forums.. thought i could get help/solve some of my problems here.... -
Is the file (SnyUtils.dll) that it is referring to there?
I really do not see how it invalidates your warranty for support. I have never needed to ring a tech support line before, so I don't really know how they work. I would still try again, and perhaps you will find an operator that is willing to help.
Post exactly what you are doing, step by step, and maybe someone will spot something. -
hmmm,, the simpliest step I can suggest is..
1. Do clean Vista install (assumed you did this)
2. Get all MS Update (Essential ones)
3. Install Sony Shared Lib + Sony DLL stuffs (2 folders under Utilities)
4. Install the rest of the drivers (so that you do not get any ? marks in device manager)
5. Install the rest of the Utilities
I supposed, if you think you've made some mistakes, first uninstall all Sony Utilities first.. I highly doubt 'drivers' would cause the problems...
Cheeers -
thanks for helping out.
how do you uninstall utilities after installing them?
thanks. i really appreciate all your help. -
Yah.. i was told that it would invalidate the customer support warranty because i'm not installing the original windows vista that is provided with the recovery disc. They said that since their recovery disc is proprietary to my laptop.. any other os i put in (even a clean vista business install) is considered tampering with/making changes to a preinstalled, factory state laptop...
therefore... i can no longer receive help from them if i do not use their recovery disc for install..
i thought this was a ridicules policy...
i will keep everything on this thread.. thanks for all the help.. and sorry for the inconveniences...
im learning.!! -
cadetcabrera, screw Sony support, problems you are having is minor-issues and you should be able to solve them yourself. the only time that I think you'd call Sony support is when the Hardware is dead. e.g., screen is dead.
To uninstall, go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Program, uninstall all untitlies from Sony. e.g., Sony control, Sony Status Monitors, etc.
Or to make it even simpler, uninstall pretty much all software (I suppose you do not have much drivers installed anyway). After that, follow my steps I posted above. Hopefully it should all work. Again, do the MS update, too. -
THANK YOU TO YOU BOTH.. IT WORKED!!!
I followed the rules Zero days recommended.. ESPECIALLY.. with Updating Vista with the Important updates only!! (this tip helped a whole lot!!!) then used Nanaki's recommendation of the TZ drivers and utilities which i found on the sony international website... i noticed.. some of the drivers had to be updated from the original.. so i got the originals.. and updated them too!!
I installed "Sony Event Services" last.. and found out that was the problem with some sony laptops having non-functioning "Fn hotkeys". That if that wasnt installed.. the hotkeys utilities/driver (sony DLL / setup utilities) won't work on some models!!!
Thanks to you all.. I truly support forums now!!! You guys have given me more help then the guys at the store.. now I will tell those guys you helped me out... especially since i have been to the store 3 times.. and they still couldnt figure it out..they said you can't do a clean install.. and it had to be from the recovery discs...
Now my last question is this: Do you guys recommend VISTA HOME PREMIUM or VISTA BUSINESS? And if I tried to install vista home premium.. will I have a problem with the drivers/utilities on the TZ 190 laptop.. being that it was pre-installed with Vista Business. I do have an original Vista Home premium cd also and my own product key?
Does this laptop ONLY work with vista business only??? I plan to use Tweakhounds guide to optimize vista.. and i have an external hdd and usb flash drive for backups.. and also use Acronis True Image 10 to backup... so i dont need the recovery partition.
thanks again! -
It should work with any edition of Vista.
I personally chose Home Premium. Both Premium and Business have the same core features, so it depends on which extras you want and or need most.
As long as you follow the same steps of installing the OS again, then you will have the same result. -
where are the microsoft updates found? I cant find them
-
Just do a clean install of vista... and BEFORE you install the utilities and drivers... go to start... programs.. and click on "WINDOWS UPDATE"... When it finds the updates..MAKE SURE.. you have it set so you CHOOSE what updates to install...
The Updates i installed first.. are the ones that said IMPORTANT right next to them... DONT install the ones that say Recommended....
Then install 1) SONY DLL utility... 2) Sony shared library (NOT THE VIDEO one).. then go and install ALL the drivers... then all the utilities.. and LAST.. i installed "SONY EVENT SERVICES" which will get your hotkeys working.. and then you are done!!
then go to TWEAKHOUND.com.. and check out his ultimate guide to optimize windows vista...
i tired it when i had the factory installed vista with all the bloatware..and it was SUPER FAST!!! he teaches you how to disable everything you don't need running and have a very minimal amount of processes running....
have fun with it...its awesome!!! -
cadetcabrera, glad that things worked out.
