Im planning to buy it, but unsure if the screen is matte or not.... and non of the sites mention it
-
The screen is glossy. All FE series laptops have a glossy screen using Sony's special coating called x-black to enhance colours.

I have just (well Saturday) bought the Vaio fe21m from laptops direct (£983) to replace a Fujistsu which ran at roughly the temperature of the sun's core after about 10 mins.
The Sony's screen is glossy, but next to my old laptop the picture quality is superb - very clear, no dead pixels, bright (on power the brightest setting is too much for my eyes) and high contrast!
The laptop stays cool on the palm rest / keyboard etc and the underneath only gets mildly warm even under full stress of Battlefield2
The processor is dual core and fast enough to cope with CAD and most new games (more on that later!) and 1 gig of ram works just fine
The Geforce 7600 with 128mb onboard is fine. I am running Half Life 1280x800 high detail fine, Far Cry also runs fine. Some games though only use 1024 x 7 hundred and whatever it is (Battlefield 2 to name one) but at nearly full detail that looks fine as well.
Overall, it was never going to beat a Dell XPS etc as a gaming machine, but it does just fine at the moment. But it's compact, light and doesn't look like a brick as well as being considerably cheaper than the Dell.
Hope this is useful! -
Can u run a 3dmark05 on it?

Congrats on your purchase!
My laptop just now (see my sig) reminds me of yours, it actually heats up my room so much i have to open windows in winter let alone summer when using it!
How does the heat from the FE21M feel? When doing non-intensive tasks e.g brwsing the web, does it get hot? How hot does it get during gaming? Oh, some benchmarks like 3DMark05 would be aswome!
Also, the FE21M comes with a 4200 RPM HDD, have you noticed its slow? -
@blessed_badger, hows the heat from the laptop? Also do you find the 4200rpm HDD slow?
-
guys quick question. Is it sae to say that even though the FE laptop dont gte that hot that , that will change as the laptop gets older?
-
Just seen a FE21M that had been on but idle for around 2.5hrs and it was only slightly warm to touch - nowhere near uncomfortable. This laptop definately dissipates heat well.

just bought one! lovely looking, bigger than i thought, very very quiet. and very cool. hard to believe.
seems a bit slower than i expected, but this may be all the bloatware.
Anyone familiar with the Vaio FE21M (VGN-FE21M)?
