I've got 2x512MB at the moment and can get 1GB sticks for around £31 each. 2GB sticks are also available for £92, which is less than I expected them to be. Has anyone tried an SZ with 3GB or 4GB?

I have seen people who have put 4GB in their SZ laptops.
But you should remember that the Windows will not see more than 3.2GB unless you have a 64-bit processor and use Windows XP or Vista X64 edition (it's usually a troublesome job to find X64 drivers for laptops.)
if you really need more than 2GB which I don't think you would, there will be not much difference with more than 2GB unless you are doing something really memory intensive. So I think you should either opt for 3GB or 2GB. -
There are numerous threads on this, but the previous poster is correct: you really won't have much more than 3GB usable under 32-bit Windows, so getting one 2GB memory module + one 1GB memory should be more than enough if you are memory bound. I have 3GB and use it quite often, but your average user does not need it.

I'm having trouble finding 2Gb RAM sticks over here in the UK?
-
www.komplett.co.uk have a few different brands for £90-100 per stick.
-
if you think you will see a noticeable performance increase in using 3 or 4gigs vs. 2 gigs you will be sorely disappointed unless you're running benchmark apps.

Does the Sony VAIO VGNSZ44GNB run 533MHz or 667MHz? I'm looking at getting an additional 1GB stick.

533Mhz - Your a member of WP Forums right?

thats is some *cheap* ram. Anyone dealt with that website before?
-
If you're referring to Komplett then I've used them multiple times. Never had any trouble with them.

They're fine - and they do have very good deals - I brought my Z-2300 speakers from there - £40 or so cheaper than my local retail outlet.

Where did you buy your 2GB memory module?
I looked at sites like Crucial and Kingston but none seem to offer 2GB, at least not when Sony is part of the product name.
If you have a link, please post.
Thanks!

I got mine when it was much more expensive from Dell. I think mine is Dell branded Samsung memory.
Most memory manufacturers won't size the SZ at > 2GB since manufacturer spec says 2GB only.
As long as you get standard 200-pin 2GB memory, you should be fine. -
I thought that I can have less than 2GB Ram? Its written in specs of Laptop...

The best price I have seen for a 2GB module in and around UK is this Transcend module from MemoryC. Delivery is Euro 5 so the total is about £80. I bought one a few weeks back (when it was about £100) and it came by post about 5 days after ordering. It works fine for me and the timing is 5-5-5-15.
As far as I know, 2GB modules work OK with the Intel 945 chipset. I have tested this module in 3 computers (age between 3 and 14 months) but they are all Samsung notebooks.

Quite cheap - what brand is it and what speed are they at? Can't seem to identify it on that weblink you gave us.
Anyone put more than 2GB RAM in an SZ?
