I have a client who just go an X notebook - very nice. I'm sure within 6 months he'll outgrow the 128 GB SSD that came with it. I've replaced many drives on Sony's in the past (particularly since they didn't offer 7200 RPM large drives on many models previously) but I had the help of on online manual someone created on how to take the previous sony's apart and they all had IDE or SATA drives. I've never replaced an SSD drive and I believe they are very specific on the interfaces and physical sizes.

Most SSDs are Sata - what else do you expect? They replace HDDs.
Some are "Zif" drives or something like that - and those may result in trouble for you... -
Thanks - if anyone has actually done this, please let me know. I'd be very interested.
Perhaps in time they'll offer the X with a 250GB HD but the 120GB is just too small for most of my clients. I know with the TZ, SZ etc, I used to have to buy hard drives elsewhere as Sony only sold them initially with small slow drives. -
The X uses a 1.8" drive with uSATA connector. It is available with a 256GB drive (custom order, depending on the country). I would recommend just purchasing the 256GB model rather than upgrading it. It's very difficult to open up the X without damaging anything. You can find some info on the internals here:

SanDisk SSD (64GB model): http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20091117/177689/55.jpg
The 128GB model uses a proprietary uSATA-PATA adapter, and like the 64GB drive, I believe that the casing is removed. These drives are not available to the general public, so this is why I recommend just buying/importing the 256GB model, since it will probably be cheaper.
Anyone replace the SSD on their X notebook?
