    Hi all,

I need some help on installing linux on SZ.
Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.
This is my first time installing linux on any machine. :(.

This is my current log/status installing it for whom try to install the same thing

    1. At first I tried Fedore Core 3 for some compatibility problem with software/hardware I use, but it didn't recognize SATA harddrive on SZ so
I decided to go with core 4. I looked up the internet and there was some ways to make it work. But I just decided to go in easy way.

    2. I installed it from DVD I burned. there was no problem installing it.
But when I first boot, the program hangs saying "starting PCMCIA card services" so I rebooted and then I somehow was able to login but X server wasn't properly installed. so I installed Fedora from scratch formating the partition. Same problem happens and it seems to be a common problem installing linux and not many good solutions for it on the internet.
I safe-booted and not enabled PCMCIA services and successfully was able to boot and finished initial setup

I found possible (but incomplete) solution to this problem
First after booting interactive boot and skip pcmcia service, log on and
setting /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia and disable pcmcia in this file.

    3. Now I cannot connect to internet. Linux are not detecting any of my ethernet card.
On the internet, the card Marvel Yukon 88e8053 pci-e XXX controller seem to have some problem with linux and should install the driver from the chipset company which is www.syskonnect.com and download install-8_31.tar.bz2
(think it was 90E1 or something)
also from Arielo's posting, I should download the driver for wireless ethernet card as well.

    4. so my problem now is
    enabling external monitor
    enabling internet
    sound
bluetooth. (since i got a bluetooth mouse )

I will update my post when I get more things done.
It seems so much work needed to be done.
Hope to find somebody to do the same thing with me so we can share some infomation.

    Thanks~

HEH yeah. maybe you are right. But I I want as low version of Fedora as possible for compatibility issue with tiny os.

The thing is that newer cipsets are supported in rather new releases of the kernel. If you *really* want to keep FC4, try installing it in "safe mode" (no acpi etc). If that succeeds, get the latest kernel you can put your hands on and recompile. with a little luck, you should have more bits supproted.

Arielo has some experiences with installing ubuntu on his sz120 which you might find useful.

now that i've read about Tiny OS, it is my opinion you won't have any problems with a newer distribution. All you might need to get extra is the glib used by RH9 (but I think it has the same "major" version number as the newer ones) and GCC (newer distros use GCC4).
