We sell both Toshiba & Sony. I have to say though the Sony Zs are by far are best sellers. We've only had one come back due to display reasons and that was because the high def display was "too high a resolution" for the customer. (he traded in for a lower resolution Z).

The Toshiba's are excellent quality too. Toshiba is an engineering company - they engineer first and then they sell. Some others are only logistics experts or marketing centric.

All in all, Toshiba's and Sony's are both excellent quality.

If you're looking for a special configuration (like an Intel X25M SSD drive) check us out. 100% customer feedback as well!

That Toshiba has nothing on the Z, especially with the screen. Let's hear people complain now that Sony overprices their laptops.

I think Toshibas get unfairly rough comments. I have a Satellite Pro U300 for work and it does the job quite well. Compared to my Z, it's slower, hotter, heavier, bulkier, has a worse screen, flexy spongey keyboard and the build feels cheaper... but then again it's OK for a work laptop and it was a fraction of the price of my Z! :)

I think both of those screens look as good as each other in different ways. The Toshiba looks more natural colour wise. Maybe the Z is a touch over saturated.
You can really see it in this picture
    [IMG]

When i looked at the pictures i was unsure what was what until i scrolled down.

Specs are better on the Z. Keyboard + 1 for the Toshiba. The black lid of the Z i think looks better though.

The Z is not matte either, the Toshiba maybe but the Z is not. I have read several times on this board that the Z is matte but that is not so. The Z's display is a bit of a hybrid.

The Z is matte enough that I consider it to completely overcome issues with glossy screens...

I disagree. It's just that the camera doesn't have a great dynamic range and its autoexposure has been confused by the bright screens against the dark surroundings. For example: if you look at the bottom-right of the Z's screen in the pic, you'll notice the top part of the task bar is 'burned out' - i.e. it's too bright to be captured by the camera sensor so it shows as pure white. You'll always get this problem when trying to photograph bright displays with digital cameras.

Toshiba screen does not look natural color, it always shows more grey & blue tone when comparing with the screen of other brand, eg. hp, dell, sony.. , so it was felt not bright and vivid.

acutally I ever see other Toshiba screen which is glossy, not matte one, still feel has too much grey & blue tone.

That Z image is painful to my eyes and though it may be good for artists/designers, I can't even use my SR without turning down the brightness.

I totally agree. The only time I use full brightness with my Z is when outside. Indoors, it's just too bright on 100%. Looks lovely on a lower brightness setting though.

I think nobody will use 100% brigteness w/ their z or most other laptops when indoor. however the full brightness is necessary when outdoor. full brughtness is not designed for indoor usage. I think 60% brightnees is good enough for indoor usage.

the reason setting the full brightness for both z and toshiba is that I just want to show you guys the differences between them, that is all.
