I'm no Sony promotor...but...
...Apple has obviously been paying attention to Sony.

Well... I agree it is similar... but !

- No Geforce / ATI card
- No dual video cards
- HEAVIER !
- No ExpressCard
- No card reader (yes, it's bundled with the SZ... but that's still better)

I personally was waiting for the 13" Apple for a while, thinking it would trump the SZ... but no chance !!! SZ still rules !

 

Just because it's the same screen size and some specs doesn't mean they're copying...

That's like saying Lenovo is copying Dell's E1405 with their upcoming Z61t.

It doesn't HAVE to mean they are copying...but I very much doubt that it is merely coincidence. -But so what if they are? I don't care, really, beyond finding it interesting. As much as I like my SZ 160, I'm frankly not a Sony fan...especially of their horrid customer service and their imbecilis tech support staff.

 

apple has the best tech support i have ever encountered. i am using a powerbook g4 while my sz is in for repairs:

dvd drive failed
strange scratches
plastic bits falling off
loose plastic bits
loud fan

the powerbook is completely silent (i have never heard the fan) it is hot (i hear the macbook pro is even hotter).

it is utterly solid. nothing is loose nothing moves that isn't supposed to. nothing scratches without me doing something wrong.

the keys are backlit (huge advantage over sz).

it runs osx (i know this is up for debate but it is much more solid then my sz's xp pro.) and the new ones run both effortlessly (no hacking)

it goes into standby wakes up instantly and there is absolutely no battery drain.

for normal web surfing email dvd watching and itunes. i cant tell the difference with this and the sz for speed.

the SZ trumps the powerbook in weight. In the end the reason my SZ is not on ebay is portability. but when apple puts out a real ultralight...

having the smae specs is not copying.

 

apple ibook and sony sz series are all produced by Asus, that's why u see similar spec among ibook, sz and w7J. (after all, Asus made them all, if i want to buy a 13.3 inch notebook, i go W7J)

Went to Apple store yesterday to check out the Macbook 13.3". Video quality is really bad. It's nothing can be compared to my SZ. I think it's due to the intel 64mb integrated video card. Screen is brighter than 700m but when you play internet video, the picture quality is no different than 700m. So, if you want to spend $1000 for browsing and typing. It's wise to get the Macbook but if you are a designer, stay away from Macbook!
