    Are you annoyed of the BEEP of Volume or Brightness changing?

    You can disable it, but also will not show the bars... Well...if it's worth it to you to keep that beep quiet at the expense of not being able to see the progress bar pop up:

    start
    type msconfig
    startup tab
    uncheck VAIOmymemcetner
    apply
    restart


    No more beeps! and one less process to run! :D

    I just changed the pi.wav file in C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Event Service to a nicer sound. I like the auditory/visual feedback.

    you can just delete the pi.wav file and the sound will be gone.

    or you can just mute the "VAIO Event Service" in the volume mixer

    Where are you seeing "VAIO Event Service" individually listed in the volume mixer? (see attachment)

    i think it will only appear after you use the Fn key though.

    Even after using the FN key I still don't see it in the mixer???!!!??? Odd...

    I have a realtek card in my SR... i dont know if that makes a difference..

    My SR has Realtek too. I never noticed anything in the volume mixer. Personally I like the beep, but with headphones it gets pretty loud!

    I'm hoping that all SR's are Realtek, otherwise potential sound quality difference...

    I have VAIO Event Service in my Z with Realtek.
    Check is your Event Service started.

    If the Event Service was not started the function keys for brightness and volume control would not be functional at all. So I am sure it is running.
