Hey guys,
I'm posting this up to see if anyone else wants to do this. I recently put artic silver 5 on my cpu and gpu in my vaio FE890. I did this same thing in my vaio FS-630 and this is a must have for any laptop. A couple things i want to point out is that make sure you have a good wide area for you to work on. Additionally make sure you have some rubbing alcohol or acetone to clean the cpu and gpu. Other than that it was pretty simple disassembling the FE.
I found a manual on how to disassemble a vaio FE.
You can download it below.

I am not responsible for any damages that you may do to your notebook.
Good luck.

What are your improvements? Nice photos!

sorry for getting back to this so late. I assume this safe for GPU but i'm not 100% sure. I've read other people use it on the GPU as well. As for temp readings, before artic silver i would idle around 55 C, now i'm around 50ish, however, i'm still in the breakin period. I'm using rmclock to get the cpu temps b/c i'm also undervolting.

was it worth it?
5 C does sound like a lot...
where can i find one for SZ? -
i think its worth it. I've done it on my past two notebooks so far. i remember seeing a manual for the SZ but i don't remember where it was.

URGENT tasty chicken,
did u notice a black rubber tape that was used to tape down the entire 'heat fan/sink/pipe' unit to the 'external fins/air outlet'
there is a small gap btw the unit and the external fins outlet which this tape was used to cover.
did u retape yours back after installing the arctic silver or is it safe to discard the tape -
Artic Silver I think is a compound like in normal thermal paste mixed with silver and it improves heat absorbtion in the gaps of the CPU or the chip it connect to the heatsink or a fan. Is it correct or not.
(PS.Correct me if im wrong) -
i think the S Series are built different. I just took a close look at the pics you posted again and you 'heatsink/pipe+fan + air outlet fins' are all a single solid unit. but in the S Series, their is a small gap btw the 'air outlet fins which is part of the notebook external casing' and the 'heatsink/pipe+fan' unit. now there is a small black tape which was taped over the two units as if it is meant to help channel the air flow straight out thru the air outlet fins. it was taped as if it is meant to prevent air from rising up above btw the small gap.
a thousand words will probably not help. but i really dont want to open the notebook now and take a pic of what i am trying to explain until the arctic silver gets shipped to me... -
Unless you are planning to overclock your cpu and gpu, it won't be necessary for a regular user to use AS5. The default ceramic paste that is already applied on your cpu is sufficient for any mobile processors.
