I recently replaced my Z12 with a rare find these days: a never used but "open box" Z13 with mid-hi specs, as described below. Just couldn't stand my own indecision re: Z1 or Z2? so took the opportunity to start with a "fresh" Z1 with never-used SSDs (or so I hope).

Everything about this unit screams NEW, crisp and FAST - except the benchmarks on the SSDs (256GB, dual): CrystalDiskMark Seq R/W 300/250mb/s, WEI: 7.2. I have owned or set up about 6 Z1's with virtually every major configuration and these should be running 325-500 mb/s/275-375 mb/s and Disk WEI of 7.4-7.7

I've done most of the standard SSD speed tweaks I've come to do routinely, but would be most grateful for anyone who is willing to respond with the 1-3 tweaks they consider the most useful/least known.

I would never have looked to do a thing, but routinely run the benchmarks on new ones to check for problems or find opportunities. I feel a little silly caring about this, but I know it's in the lower 25% SSD speed for this model, and it should be upper 25%, leading me to think something's wrong. Should I care about this? I should confess that I got it for a steal: $1,099!

Here it is by the numbers. I haven't run any other benchmarks than WEI and CDM (didn't get this one as a "hobby," got it to get work done, fast!):

    Z13EGX, Core i7-640, 8GB RAM, 256GB OEM RAID0 (dual 128GB), WWAN

    WEI:
    Processor: 6.9
    RAM: 6.9
    Graphics: 6.9
    Gaming Graphics: 6.9
    Primary Hard Disk: 7.2

BIOS Version: (to be supplied next time I boot up!)

Many thanks for any/all feedback on:

    1) the SSD speed tweaks you consider most effective, or links to threads addressing this that you remember/can find that I cannot!

    2) ideas of other diagnostic tests that may reveal the cause of this as being correlated with something only indirectly related to the SSD/controller. Wondering if possibly this was "open box" because there was a problem with it, though it really feels like a screamer.

    3) advice as to whether BIOS hack is a likely way to diagnose/correct this

    Thanks very much.

What brand/model are the OEM SSDs?

make sure you enable write caching on your ssd if you havent already. the score on wei varies, so it shouldnt be too important. you probably just installed windows and all your programs, so let the computer idle for a while to run it's garbage collector and see if anything beneficial happens from that.

bring any thoughts? I've had more Z11s/Samsung SSDs than anything else before.

    Thank you will do tonight.

Sorry, I appreciate the responses. Something came up just after I posted this, so I'm just checking back now. Thanks to both of you.

Have you tried running CrystalDiskInfo so we have more to work with? My guess is RAID-0 ain't working right. Next would be the SSDs firmware could be outdated so I suggest getting the latest driver's for 'em.

CrystalDiskInfo does not recognize the sony Z1 RAID0 SSDs at all. When you say RAID0 isn't working, Intel RST suggests it is and though I'm the one who asked for the help, we're not talking non-functioning or half speed, just 25% low on CDM measured speeds vs. avg for the config. and WEI of 7.2 vs 7.4-7.6 avg for the config.

Does this still cause to feel the RAID array is not working?

Also, can you suggest another SSD info program than CDMInfo that will recognize a raid array?
