I'm running Vista on a SZ330P. I installed a Vista audio update that made my audio not work at all. After rolling this update back, the audio had a "bug" symbol in the Device Manager and I still had no sound. Re-installing the correct driver got the 'bug' out, but still no sound. Going to the Sound icon in Control Panel gave the message 'no sound device installed.'

Here's how I solved the problem: I went to the UK Sony site and downloaded and installed a new driver from there. It restored my sound function completely. I hope it works for you as well as it did for me. Here's the link:
    http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-SZ&m=2569

Scroll down to the SigmaTel driver and install it.

    Good luck.

Same thing happened to me, downloaded an audio codec through windows update and when i restarted my computer i had no sound. I just did a system restore and it worked fine. Someone on the update team is asleep at the wheel :D

If you un-install the old Sigmatel driver/program, the updated driver works just fine.
