When configuring the audio settings for the audio drive, there seem to be many options available, including dolby enhancer, noise canceling, etc.....

I tried watching a film last night with audio out to my amplifier (using the headphones jack), and found the dialogue to quite strong, but everything somewhat muffled and muted.

Which setting do you guys think is best for film viewing?

The professional audio technicians who mixed the movies' soundtracks did all the enhancements that are needed. Decode Dolby Digital, DTS or Dolby Surround if it's present, and otherwise leave all effects off.
