Awesome Rebate on Sony VAIO Z / SR / BZ Series

I found an ad that was showing this unbelievable deal (at least to me it was) while researching for my work project.

Now I remember there was a large terms and conditions page for this promotion but it seems to have been removed. Some people have said this offer is not valid if you buy from SonyStyle, only if you buy from Sony's business site or resellers like CDW and Newegg, has this been confirmed?

If I buy a Z, I'd like to get it from SonyStyle because of a 10% student discount they offer and to customize it with the premium carbon finish without buying a very expensive pre-configured model. But it looks like if I go that option, I have to sacrifice the bundle.

It looks like its either a CTO Z or the Productivity/Mobility bundle, can't have both right?

 

Does this deal work in Canada or is it one of those US only deals?

Corresponded with Sony rep. and purchased my Z from Portable One. He emailed me that I would qualify for the rebate and I have sent the docs in. Hope it filled.

Not yet. I mailed my rebate and info on 10/14/08. I just checked my rebate status online and it shows: "Received, Submission is being processed".

 

Sony is very good with their promise rebate so I def will do this if I can.

 

I'm sorry to ask the stupid question, but are you eligible if you buy from SonyStyle.com? Or only other dealers?

I'm definitely buying from SonyStyle because I can use the 10% student discount, but ... shoot, if I qualify you'd better believe I'll fill out for the rebate deal.

 

I also have the same question and also because of SonyStyle's 10% student discount.

I don't know if its confirmed, but it looks as though SonyStyle is not eligible for the rebate. Has it been 100% confirmed? I know its valid for authorized resellers like Newegg, CDW, PortableOne and Sony's own Business site.


It looks like you have to make a sacrifice, either the 10% discount or the rebate on the bundles.

 

I'll gladly take the discount instead, I don't *need* a docking station or second regular battery, but I did want to make sure I wasn't ignoring this if it applied to me.

 

To everyone:

I called up the Sony Rebate support and they said the rebate is valid for any Z purchased. Whether it is an "authorized dealer" or not.

Just to make certain I called them up again, to get a different representative, and I got the same answer.

I am not gonna to try. I will only pull the trigger when somebody else who bought a z from SONYSTYLE actually got the rebate.

I'm very still skeptical of this rebate working with SonyStyle, those representatives may have been confused on the topic discussed. This rebate doesn't seem to apply to consumers, only businesses as its only advertised on the business section of Sony's site, nothing of this at all is mentioned on SonyStyle.

But if true, a CTO Z590 with the Premium Carbon lid, 10% student discount and free Mobility Bundle sounds lovely.

 

If that works, I'll return my MBP for the Z.

 

UPDATE - I mailed the rebate on 10/14/08 (post-mark). I checked the online status and it now shows that the mobility pack was shipped UPS. So....it worked! I purchased my SB140 through MicroCenter. Listed myself as a business on the pre-qualification site, printed and mailed my info and now it's showing as shipped. What a great rebate!!!

Its a small electronics retailer in the U.S, their website is MicroCenter.com and they have several locations nationwide, there's one in Houston, Texas which I pass by going to university. Pretty nice store.

So it is... but the 540 coupon is for CTOs.

A lot of people prefer the lower res... so that's probably an even better bonus for them.

I got my extra battery, travel charger and a bag for my Z today. The rebate was quick! Took only 1 month turn around.

I plan to sell it on fleabay and get some money back.

does this work with CTO configurations for the z series? i.e. vgn-z590cto?

 

well considering the z590 CTO is part of the Z series, i would have to go out on a limb and say that YES it does work!!!! kinda makes sense, doesn't it?

 

well its not listed in the drop down for model numbers so i was unsure.

 

I'd also like to know the answer to this question. Is the model number a CTO laptop really just z590-cto? Or is there a different letter listed after like z590n?
