According to Sony, you can customize a BX series notebook with the X700 starting in "mid-November."

This goes against what togus said earlier, so take it with a grain of salt. The site is incredibly buggy right now, so anything could change. For example, the enhanced battery option actually decreases your system's price by $100. Adding in a camera costs nothing.

I wish they would get their stuff straight! Right now I am weighing either getting a z70va right now or waiting another month to get a BX! When I call Sony I get all these different answers on the availability too!

I don't have an inside track on this information...I was only responding to what I'd been told by Sony (times 2), and looking at the presence of Nvidia's on the rest of the Sony line (they are phasing out the ATIs on the A series). Who knows what they will end up with, given Sony's history with information sharing. In any event, I got tired of waiting and bought a Dv4000 with the X700 card...so far I'm very happy with it.

    Waiting is getting tough, agreed.

But you'll notice everything is Out of Stock or Backordered. I finally got a decent answer from Sony B2B, that being "We don't know, we can't even order one yet." www.sony.com/vaiobx says mid-October for the 14.1" release (and it still lists the SXGA+ option). The ship date for the BX accessories is October 19th, and if you translate the sony.co.jp website with BabelFish you'll see they put a ship date of October 18th (and also some strange Japanese apology about the video card delaying shipping). The Japanese website also still lists the SXGA+ option and the X700. So I'm hoping web issues will be cleared up on Wednesday when it looks like the notebook will (hopefully) be shipping. But since its so late into October, I'm thinking about just waiting for ambigious "mid November" date.

The Sony AX570G is now on SonyStyle. It is nearly identical to the BX570; it's simply a home version of the business-oriented BX570. This machine, interestingly enough, comes equipped with an X700 and is shipping Nov. 3rd.

No word on the 15" BX with the X700. The normal 15" is slated for the end of this month. IMHO, the only interesting model is the 14" since it's unique. If you want a 15.4" laptop with good graphics, the dv4000 is a better deal unless you really, really like the Sony screen.

I understand as Sony makes some of the finest screens around. You'll just have to stick around until their proposed date of mid-November before you can get your hands on one. Or maybe by chance, they could upgrade the FJ series with dedicated graphics. :)

If you like Sony screens you would likely like Fujitsu screens at least as well.

Ah...if only Fujitsu released a small notebook with good discrete graphics. Unfortunately Fujitsu is one of the most conservative companies in the context of mobile graphics choices.

yah i would love the upgraded fj. seems that laptop is targeted toward super mainstream though, especially with those colors :p.

Fujitsu screens seem good but i think sony has better backlighting.

Its got some features that are hard to find anywhere but with IBM. I'm a big fan of the pointing stick over the touchpad. The integrated webcam is nice. Biometric thumb scanner is a plus. The overall setup is just everything I'm looking for. A tad bit thicker than the T43, but better screen, better dedicated graphics card (once its released), processor can be upgraded to higher than the T43, same price point, actually a bit cheaper.

But I'm really wating on the SXGA+ monitor and the video card. Huge selling points. If I cant get those, I'll go with an Thinkpad.

Got off the phone with a more competitant sony rep, he said they have a few pre-builts available, and that the configurable should be available by 1st of November, and he said they should have the X700 option and SXGA+

If the 15.4" is available on Nov 1 with x700, I will be pretty annoyed. I just ordered a z70va cuz I was sick of the conflicting info I kept getting from sony's reps and the site and feared it would be much later. If I could order one on Nov 1 I would have waited.

The FSC Screens that I have seen (the ones of the Amilo Series) are nothing compared to the XBlack Displays (2nd Gen) of the Vaio FS Series!!

The Vaio Screens are as bright as the ones of the Amilo (1439/37) when they are at the lowest brightness setting and the Amilo at the highest.
And also they have nearly no mirror-effect like EVERY other Glare Screen I have seen so far.

The Amilo's aren't designed or made by Fujistu. They are rebranded Unwill (?) laptops. The Lifebook series on the other hand are designed by Fujitsu and have their signature screens.

I have seen the Fujitsu Crystal View and Sony XBrite side-by-side and I must say the Fujitsu screen is superior - by a hair. That is to be expected, of course, since the Fujitsu uses the superior MVA panels. That Sony could approach the quality of a MVA panel with their technological improvement upon the TN panel is very respectable.

the colors on the fujitsu seem skewed toward green? or seems too contrasty as normal. maybe the green contrast is up too high? the screen just doesnt seem correct

Now that i have a working cell phone again, I called up Sony B2B again. According to this sales rep, the delay is due to ATI inventory problems. "We're all set and ready to go, just waiting on ATI." He gave me the old "check back in a week and a half"
Another little tidbits gleaned, all the SXGA+ models will have the X700

Constant delays are making me want to go to the Thinkpad T43

Is the screen of the BX non-reflective?
Could the quality (of the screen) be compared to the FS series?

I think the SXGA+ is a matte screen, there is no mention of XBRITE technology in there. That's with the XGA only I believe.

    Yes, SXGA+ donates a 1400x1050 resolution.

I really want to order a 17 inch BX with the x700 so I've been checking their configuration page every day for over a week now. Sony recently changed the configuration pages for the BX series on their business site (in the old version you could select the screen size from a drop down menu, now you select the screen size before starting the customization process)... it was either Tues. or Wed. that this happened. For a very brief time right after it changed the x700 showed up as an option.

The option to add the x700 cost $140. After I selected it the estimated shipping date in the lower right corner disappeared and once I got to the final order page it listed the notebook as backordered. I didn't place an order since I figured the website was still in the process of being updated. When I checked back later in the day the option to select the x700 wasn't there anymore. I can't wait for Sony to start shipping these laptops!

maybe, but it seems a bit weid that the $1700 on sony style is the same as the $1950 on CDW but without the x700, im sure everything else is the same,

Sure you could take some stuff from it, HD, RAM etc, but would you want to?

Just think the price is either really high on CDW, or theres somthing else apart form the x700 that the model has.

If sony don't get their ass in gear i'm looking at the W3V, need a 14" really, at least 1280 res, the bx has a 1400*1050 which is perfect for me.

To bad its gonna be 2010 till its out. :(
