Ok, so i've purchased 2 of these laptops about a month ago. I open the 1st one up and the light leak is the 1st thing i notice. In my opinion is is way more than it should be, especially for a laptop of this price. I've had both screens replaced, one on-site by a sony repair guy and the other replaced in San Diego where they do all their warranty repairs. Both of the new LCD screens were exactly the same...no change in light leakage.

According to a Sony tech, he said this problem is known with this particular laptop (BX540 only), it's only with the high resolution xbrite screen but they have no plans to fix it and consider it normal operation. Am i crazy to find this amount of leak unacceptable? I'm in the process of talking with a sony supervisor to let me switch them out to a different series laptop. I've been to Fry's and the sony style store and have yet to see ONE other sony laptop that has noticeable leakage in daylight. Here are some pics:

As you can see, it's not just bad on a black background in the dark. It is very noticeable on most colors and in broad daylight.

No you're not crazy. That amount of leakage would be unacceptable to me as well. I can't believe they feel that it's "normal operation". I think you're wise to pursue a different model. I wish you luck.

Exactly! I lurk around here to find the buzz on what people are saying about VAIO, and offer help when I can.

Haha, nice man. Well, i'm out sick right now with laryngitis (hard to be on the phones when i can't talk). I'm getting tired of calling Sony...a supervisor was supposed to call me and chat about replacement options but i never got a call.

I just want to trade these in for a different/similar model that won't have this light leakage issue. Now that you've seen the images, what do you think?

Those pictures are about how bad I thought it would be after you told me about it. Jeez it's bad. When you get back to the office give me a ring and we'll talk about it.
