What? I thought that battery life would have been a strength of this machine... So even with extended battery this laptop won't reach the 5 hours, ugh. So this would mean that the SR has better battery life than the Z?

Thanks for the heads up guys.

This may have been a pre production sample with early drivers and firmware. I would not make any conclusions at this point in time. Give it two weeks and we'll probably have reviews.

The problem is that I need this laptop immediately when it's out (have to move to Finland the 26th of August) and unless there are other early reviews I doubt I will get other insights into battery life before that date.

I'm pretty sure you'll get at least 4 hours on IGP with the standard battery. Maybe more.

The review was a 35w TDP CPU instead of 25w.

Metsn's second link appears to be the forerunner of the English version of the excellent "interview with VAIO developers" series. Here is the one for the TZ, in case you are unfamiliar with the interview series http://vaio-online.sony.com/prod_info/exclusive/vaio_tz_interview/index_01.html

I'm looking forward to the interview with the designers of the Z.

6 out of 6 stars by PC Pro... wow.

6 hours confirms the numbers listed by Sony UK. Battery life is very very good.

Yes, that's impressive, but no bluetooth? Come on Sony! It's the main missing function for the SR, and given the cost, it's not forgivable (unless that's untrue of course).

Not that I'm interested in it anyway, but I can't see how anyone could leave today without bluetooth, especially with no 3G on-board....

I dunno WHY they said no Bluetooth on the SR, the Sony UK website lists it as having bluetooth (sonystyle.co.uk), and it looks like all the websites list the SR as having bluetooth (or least 99% of them).

Nice bit of tasteful soft-core Z pron, with mood-setting music. Still got my heart racing.

Added....very nice video, thank you ac500....I more and more don't understand people who prefer the US keyboard (while ordering from Japan)...I 'love' the real size 'Enter' key...not the strange small US one :)

Good :) You know, normally I would put the Z on the first place....but it seems that still some people want to buy the other one as well..so in alphabetical order it should be more fair ,)

After getting to play around myself with a BZ so far I've been impressed. It's build quality seems to be much better than that of the BX series it replaces. It's a little more sleek and stylish, and not as inconsistent with the other VAIO notebook designs. Speed and power are all that you'd expect from the new Centrino 2 chipset.

The Z has impressed me even more now that I've had a chance to use it as well. It's quick, the keyboard is wonderful, and I'm amazed at how much they've packed into it with the light weight it is.

Funny, I'm using a BT mouse with my SR right now. I think that reviewer screwed up, or they got a wonky review unit. ;)

Added another review of the real Z from PC Watch in Japanese...unfortunately he doesn't clearly specify which conf he's using (I believe it's the Montevina one though), but the very positive thing from this review is, that after 5 ours of using it on Stamina mode, there was still 35% of battery left :)
