Would be really nice if it did though. Black keys are kind of hard to find in the dark!

Any key is hard to find in the dark.

I thought i would have wanted that feature but now that i have it i dont think its necessary. The screen lights my keyboard up. Plus a backlight would just be another thing to drain the battery :p

Well there is always a USB powered rigid wire having small bulb with adjustable height. The luminosity is adequate for night work.

There's always the option to turn off the backlight when not needed, no? ;)

Yeah, no kidding. I have a backlit keyboard on my Latitude E4200 and I still get 6+ hours of battery life. Yeah, the E4200 has an ULV processor, but I don't notice any difference in battery life between using the backlit keyboard and the stock keyboard (upgraded aftermarket, so I've got both).

It's inexcusable not to have a backlit keyboard these days. When was the last time you used a cellphone with keys (or a touchscreen) that didn't light up in the dark? Mobile technology should work well in dark places!

Cell phone screens are not angled in a way to lighten up the keys. Laptop screens are. I'm sure there's a reason other than they just don't feel like it as to why Sony doesn't put back lights on their keys.

Oh? My screen tends to be pushed back, not pulled forward.

So your saying you push your screen 180 degrees back? That's got to be hard to look at.

All that I was trying to say is that I don't feel the need for back lit keys. I don't even look at my keyboard most of the time and if I really needed to see it in the dark the screen omits enough light for me to see the keys.

I'm happy it works for you. I really do. :)

Unfortunately, for people like me, I do appreciate having a backlit keyboard because of 2 reasons:

    1) I just suck at typing. :( I cannot type without looking at the keys most of the time.
    2) I have what some would call "night blindness." What this means is that I don't see well/clearly in the dark. :( Therefore, it is a lot of hassle having to search for the keys in the dark even though the screen is bright enough to "light" up the keys.

Turn on the lights then :) Knowing Sony, they'd slap this feature on for another Benjamin or two. Or three.
