I'd be careful. The recovery partition is your last aid backup in case the system gets messed up beyond repair. Since it doesn't seem to take up excessive space, I'd leave it where it is. Just in case.

It's the first thing I did. 7Gb+ seems pretty excessive to me.

I burned Livecd (a Linux partition utility - http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php) and rebooted the system with it. If you want to do it fast, just backup everything, delete the partitions and make a new one (spanning the total disk space). I thought I would save myself the hurdle of reinstalling Windows by deleting the hidden partition and resizing the other one to the full size of the hard disk. But after more than an hour of processing the partition, Livecd started a new process which would take another six hours. Installing Windows would only take me 15-30 minutes..

so this livecd program makes a backup of your recovery partition on a dvd and then you can use it when ever you want to rollback your notebook?

No, livecd is just a partition program, it doesn't backup anything. Just search the Sony forum for 'recovery', I know some people talked about it before.
