i just wonder if its bad to use the Vaio Z without the battery (by using only the charger when the laptop is on)
can the laptop take damage if its without any battery and the charger is not plugged in for a few days?

I don't know why you would do this...
I mean, it doesn't hurt the laptop, but it might hurt the battery health over time. -
i have lost the battery

I have a couple old notebooks that have no batteries (because they died) and they seem OK after many yrs plugged into the AC adapter.
-
hmm what could go wrong if not having the battery and the charger attached for a few days?
-
Nothing. That's fine, I was talking about long term.

I think the only thing you have to worry about is if your power supply has a massive electrical surge (lightning strike) and it fries the computer. -
I've had numerous laptops and I almost never take the battery out, and I only maybe use the laptop once a week off of battery, but I always make sure the battery has been drained completely atleast once every 3 months. Right now my DM3z's battery that I got in October 2009's health is at 95% according to the battery profile. I have had similar results with my old MacBook. -
What? Are you being serious?

I'm surprised no one has asked...
But, how did you lose your battery? I'm just too curious not to ask. -

Use a surge protector, I'm not sure having the battery in there serves the same purpose...
To me the danger is that the power may be cut suddenly (e.g. black-out). Without the battery, the system will power down immediately. This may cause the OS to get wonky. -
I will warn against over removing the battery. I used to remove the battery out of my Sony Vaio C all the time since most of the time it was plugged in. However, since I removed it too much, I believe the connector connecting the motherboard to the battery has broken because my computer will not register that there is a battery inserted, and it will not charge the battery. However, occasionally if I take the battery out and reinsert it it knows there's a battery there but won't charge it. (same issue with two different batteries, so it's safe to rule out battery issue) Basically what I'm going to say is, it's cheaper to buy another battery than to repair the main board.

i pull my battery everytime its charged up usually go weeks before i use it

Longest I've gone without connecting the battery to the lappie is about a month.
I keep the thing charged at 80% and just keep it out of the sun. Might connect it up again one of these days and drain it down to around 60% or 50% as that's the optimum charge level of Li-Po batts (which is why you see gadgetry using Li-Po in their batts always shipped with SOME charge from factory).
Bad to use the Sony Vaio Z without battery?
