Just to share my recent experience. When I first bought the Vaio I used the recommended 80% charging limit for the extended battery life, and all was fine for 6 months. I then fell foul of the Antimaldoc malware and basically lost Windows7, I rebuilt the machine but neglected to reset the charging limit back to 80%, now 2 weeks later the battery is dead (coincidence???), I have sent it to the approved Sony repairers and they confirm the battery is kaput, now 11 days later I am still waiting for a replacement battery - not overly impressed with the Sony service, my last Dell had a battery failure and I received a replacement within 24 hours.

Coincidence I think - when I bought my first z it was set to 80% which I changed after a while and it worked fine.

Bad luck though all the same, especially for it to have happened on your dell as well. Unless it's sat next to something that could wreck it....
