    Hello,
I have had a vaio z12 for about a year now and i also have an extended battery. Sony promised 10+ hours from this battery on idle but i have never found close to this. Now just doing light browsing i get barely 4 hours. I used to get close to 7. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening/ if i need a new battery? My computer is also running significantly hotter than before.

Go to Vaio Control Center and check your battery health. Lucky you, I never get 7 hours on my extended battery. Usually 4-6, closer to 4 running on the intel grpahics, medium to low brightness, and wifi on.

What, 4 hours? Guys, check your CPU utilization, there must be some process eating a good amount of battery juice in the background!

just curious as i also have a z-series too. is there any practical benefit in activating vaio battery care and limit the charge to 80%? will my battery lifespan really last longer by sacrificing 20% of battery life per charge?

You might want to try a program like "BatteryCare" (batterycare.net). That will tell you the wear level of the battery, as well as the discharge rate in Watts. With mid brightness and low usage, you should be getting < 10W. As the extended battery is 85Wh, that means you should be getting at least 8.5h out of it, if its wear levels are not too bad.
