Having a fan problem too now it seems, with my SZ680. It ran almost completely silent for months, now since a few weeks its making more and more noise and its really audible quite loudly (the fan situated at the rear right). The battery life has more than halfed too, I used to be able to type in word for almost 5 hours in stamina mode, now only 2hours or even less. And its not like the drop was gradual either. It was 5 hours one week, and then 2 hours the next. Any ideas what this could be and how to solve the problem?

sounds like th CPU multiplier is stuck at max! So the CPU is constantly running on max! Hence why both your battery life has decreased and the fan is on more then usual!

Open the task manager and see if there are any programs using a sizeable %age of the CPU...

It's either the computer is stuck in the maximum performance power profile or there's some misbehaving application thrashing the CPU. Sometimes this is just a simple dialog box waiting for a button to be clicked.
