Hiya, I recently read some tips on prolonging battery effectiveness and some suggestions were using only AC. My questions are basically will using the AC, leaving the battery out somehow will damage my laptop?

Second, some others have suggested that if you are at full charge (50% Vaio battery care), it says not charging, is the battery essentially idle (i.e. as if the battery isn't there at all) and basically has the same effect as leaving the battery out and using the ac adapter only? Is that true?

Third, does sony battery care really help the battery in the long run (as in has more impact than just a few percentage) and the sony vaio battery care is not significant on the battery and is just a marketing tool?

    bump.
i got a Sony Vaio and have the same exact question. Should I leave the battery in and not worry about or should I still take it out, if I am using the battery care software ? Thanks in advance !

Well, one program suggested I had 0% wear on my Vaio's battery and that was more than 5 month into its life - used daily and charged to 80%.

    Regarding running on AC only...

How stable is your electricity supply?
I personally wouldn't trust the British one....

If you leave the battery inserted you have a backup in case of a power failure, if you don't your laptop will crash with the potential for data corruption but definitely data loss.

But then if you need to conserve your battery - place it in a cold dry place...

Do search NBR a bit by the way, there has been so much written about it.

Thanks guys, I read the article on the link above, very informative. So I will use the battery care function, set it at 50% as I rarely use the batter and won't take it out. If i had a penny for every time somebody mistakenly unplugged my laptop ... i would have about a quarter haha

    Hello,
If you want to keep your batteries to the right for a time, store them in a dry and cool place. Heat and nearby tinny objects can spoil the battery. As the batteries will self discharge after protracted storage, you will have to break the batteries in again before use.
