I recently completed a little project with my laptop battery and am now
seeking help. I bought a used Sony PCG-z505r with a battery which
lasted about 2 minutes on a good day. After purchasing a new (not OEM)
3000mAh battery online, I discovered that the laptop would run for ~3hrs
but would not show any of the charge information from the battery. I
assumed that this was a discrepancy between the control board and the
computer. I took apart both my old and new battery and combined the
good (new) cells with the control board from the old (busted) pack. The
result: it charges and works, but the old board is still attempting to
utilize the new cells as though they are the original 1400 mAh cells.
Is there any possible way to change this? I have good electronics
skills and am willing to try interesting things. Thanks in advance.

wow. my advise is - don't.

speaking as someone who work in a manufacturing environment, and a company with a battery assembly plant, you have no idea how dangerous your undertaking is. do a search online for "exploding laptop".
