    Hello,

    I am curious what I can expect for the battery life while playing back a DVD with the standard battery? Which model did you have a sz or sz premium? What brightness?

    Thanks

    I guess you never read my reply in the battery life/hibernation/standby posts.

    I can get 2:40min
    sz120
    1394=off
    screen=full brightness
    volume= 40-45%
    Do nothing but turn on the unit into stamina mode. insert dvd and watch.
    I have my unit go into hibernation at 3% battery

    They say 1.5x the normal battery. so if I use 160mins, thats good for a 4hr movie. Keep in mind, thats IF its really 1.5x longer. SOny already screwed it up with actual battery time.

    nobody has answered my question about the extended battery. maybe i should start a thread. i would like a real world (not sony) test of the extended battery.

    ps i get less the 2.4 with a 160

    I don't recall the exact setup I used for that, but I'm sure CPU was set to adaptive, Fan was on 1, 1394 disabled, I'm sure I had the wireless switch off. I didn't do anything any more creative than what is available in the VAIO power management screen. I may have cheated a little, as I did not start this test with the machine off. I had the machine on, and fully booted into windows, then unplugged and popped in a DVD to test.

    Neilk2350- Nobody seems to have the ext battery. I think thats why you didnt get an answer. I would have one if I could find it locally.

    I take it you guys are referring to playing an actual dvd from the DVD-Drive, why not rip the DVD to the harddrive?
    When playing a ripped DVD I get something around 2:00-2:20 with my S5XP with brightness on max, so there should be a bigger improvement in comparison to the SZ.

    I would recommend using WinDVD to playback movies though. It has a specific laptop power scheme which gave me an extra ~15min. I think what it does is always load part of the movie into the RAM and letting the hdd spin down.
