i've had my Z for for a couple weeks now. previously i had a vaio FW which has been used for a good year or so. by now, the battery on my FW is pretty much useless because it cannot hold enough charge to keep the laptop running for 10 min without the charger being plugged in. however, i notice that my brand new Z isnt able to hold the charge 100% either. this was the case for my FW as well, and it progressively got worse to the point where, as mentioned, i couldnt run it without it plugged in. what's can i do about this? i'm trying to prevent this from happening to my Z since i will most definitely need it to run on battery life for a couple of hours during classes. when using my Z at home, i normally keep it plugged in (it have not let it reach 0% battery life yet). i've been keeping it plugged in even when it is off..that is the only way i see 100% battery life upon start up. if i leave it unplugged, when starting up, it will only display 96-98%. the longer i leave it unplugged, the lower the charge is when i start it up again (after about 8 hours unplugged and shut off, it'll show 92% at start up). any advice would be appreciated =)

It's called battery drain, normal behavior on some of the Vaios. Only way to stop it is to pull out your battery or just live with it, only two options.

Although they are expensive I would buy a 2nd battery.The average usage time 4 the Z is +/- 3.5 hrs.2 batts= 7 hrs.

Are you sure the batter in your FW wasn't failling? It happens sometimes - my SZ's battery failed after two weeks - it was bad luck.
Edit:
I got a new one under warranty - so it was no problem for me, in case you wonder. -
ok thanks for all the input! so does leaving the laptop plugged in have any negative effects on the battery life?
the battery on my old laptop was a gradual decline in battery life..i think i had the laptop for about a 2 months or so and thats when i started noticing the charge wasn't holding as long as it used to. -
