I have purchased the FW 490 CTO about two weeks back, but the battery seems bo giving me some issues. Can somebeody please confirm if the problem that I am facing is an issue or it is quite normal.

I have configured my notebook for super battery care function in order to protect its life. So far it seems to be doing a good job that it keeps the battery charged for only 50%. But when I Shut down the notebook overnight and restart it in the morning the battery levels are down to 25%. I have no clue as to how 25% of the battery is getting depleted overnight even though I shutdown my laptop. Can somebody please help me out on this issue, because I think there is someting seriously wrong with my notebook.

Charge the battery fully (100%) first.

Thanks a lot for the pointers folks. Atleast I am not the only one facing the issue.

But is like 25% drain of the battery overnight quite common? Or alternatively, is there any way I can avoid it?

after u restart does it stay at 25% for along time before ticking down? I think the battery meter is inaccurate if u activate the battery care function. Mine does the same.. for example if i turn off laptop at 45% itll boot at 30% but then stay at 30% for about 30 minutes or so. so my battery life still remains the same.

Last night I did a full charge (100%) and in the morning the charge was down only by 5% (at 95%). That was quite encouraging.

I will be checking tonight again with the battery care function enabled and will check as to how long it would stay at the 25% mark.

There is no proof that partially charging a Li-ion battery extends it's life.

I thought the point was not the partial charging but the partial charging AND discharging. In other words, the life of a battery is often expressed in how many full charges AND discharges it affords. So if you don't charge it all the way, then you obviously don't do FULL discharges, either.

Thus, in a zero sum game, the total number of full charges AND discharges is doubled if the battery, once it has had at least one full charge, is only partially charged.

The known negative effect of partial charges/discharges on NiCad and NiMH batteries I thought was precisely why LiIon batteries, which supposedly do not suffer negaively from such "partials", were introduced into notebooks.

Finally I got to test the battery life of my FW 490.

I did a couple of full charges and after overnight shut down and a start next morning the battery shows a full 100% and lasts for about 2hrs 50 mins.

Next I enabled the battery care function and set the level to 50%. And after the start next day the battery showed 50% and it stayed at that 50% mark for 20mins before it started to fall down. Overall the battery lasted about 1 hour 30 mins. So I guess the battery drain issue is sorta fixed atleast.

I guess initially the baterry needs to be fully charged 5-6 times for it to start functioning normally.

    HI

I am correct in assuming that regardless of which battery saving plan I choose for my FW490, that when the computer is plugged in, it runs in high performance mode?
