Why does my laptop shut down every time I unplug it from the wall, even though it shows my battery is at 100% charged

    Bad battery - contact Sony.

Happened with my SZ7 after 2 weeks, battery was dead, showed 100% but held no charge.

seems like sony is notorious for battery drain and horrible batteries in general...that is what is stopping me from truly considering a sony z or sr. :(

Like this this statement is wrong.

Battery drain has only occured on the SR - some people had it on the SZ, some hadn't - I'm not sure about the Z.

What's more battery dain is caused by hardware and how it is shut down - its not entirely Sony's fault.

Batteries overal are actually quite good - its just that you'll only hear complains. Ever since my battery failed I had the same one, used for a year, regularly on battery, then AC - no loss of capacity, quite in contrast to my old laptop.
Additionally Sony manufactures the batteries used by for example Dell...

Also, I am pretty sure Sony is not the only company with a battery drain problem - also: if you buy, say acheap Acer or Dell you won't complin - if you buy a more expensive Sony you will - still the problem can exist in both.

As said before, if it won't run off the battery at all, it's a faulty battery.

Or it might be a 3rd party battery, which doesn't identify itself with the right codes to pass Sony's battery inspection daemon.

This would create a notice "on the desktop" (popup window)

It sounds more like a failed battery.
